I took my first ACT test in October and got a compostie score of 25. My induvidual scores are English-24, Math-24, Reading-26, Science-26, and English/Writing Combined-23 with a 7 on my writing. I'm a Junior and when I asked my school college counselor if a 25 was a good score for my first time, she didn't really say much other than that I should take it again and try to score in the 28-31 range. The college I want to attend has a midrange ACT score between 19-23. I'm just not sure if a 25 is a good score or not since my college couselor didn't really comment on my score. So, this leads me back to my earlier question. Is this a decent score, or should I take the test again? And if I should take the test again, how could I improve my scores?

As a junior, you have plenty of time and should take the test again! Try and get a test prep book and just study to increase your score by even 2 or 3 points. I don’t know which colleges you’re looking at, but like your counselor said, 28-31 is usually a safe zone to be in! Best of luck, I’m sure you’ll pull it off!

A 25 is equivalent to a 1710 on the SAT or a 74 percentile.

It’ll get you into that college easily. As far as whether it’s a good score, a 25 is definitely well above average, but it won’t get you into many great schools.

A 25’s alright, but if you’re trying to get into some competitive schools, you’ll want at least a 28.

Remember that this is College Confidential, so most of the people here have scores in the 30s. To them, a score of 25 is fairly low, but to the standard American, it is great. The average composite score is a 21 I believe, so you are above average, and you shouldn’t have a problem being admitted to your desired college. If you can though, try to raise your score up with a retake. If anything, it could make you more likely to get scholarships.

Thanks to everybody who has responded so quickly. I was debating over whether to take my ACT again, but after reading what everyone has been saying, I will defiantly be retaking my ACT. I’m pretty academically competitive and I personally didn’t feel that a 25 was a high enough score for me to be satisfied with.
