I have been reading about what are "good" ECs, ones that show depth and commitment as opposed to just volunteer hours, per se. So how would this be:

Designed and implemented 2 exhibits at Children's Museum of (City).

And, on an application, would there be a way of showing the exhibits (like a photo of them) or a description, or a letter from the museum chairperson or something? Or do you just get by with a description?

um...working there is good but you can't just volunteer if you're thinking ivy, you have to show leadership and show you've done something important there and as for the pictures, i dont think it would help though because you didnt paint them you only work there, try doing something that would stand out while volunteering

i disagree, i think that shows great depth and commitment. that will stand out.

i guess it would depend on the nature of the exhibits... if it's something you've spent A LOT of time on, i'd say maybe include all 3 (description, letter, photo.)

Yes, I volunteer there and have like 100 hours.

Maybe I should say it differently: I am on the Exhibits Committee, and I have personally designed 2 exhibits related to geometry and the human heart, and both have been built and are currently in the museum.

But I don't know how to write that on an application; I just made something up in my first post.

Please comment on the quality of the EC, and if you want also "how to phrase it".

I spent a decent amount of time on both of them: coming up with the concept for the age group, planning it out on the computer, working with the builder guy to make it work in the museum, etc.

I think it sounds like a pretty good ec. It is unique, and a job mainly left for professionals. Don't rely solely on this ec though. Develop others and try to be well rounded.

MuTiger, I have plenty of ECs in the academics and clubs area, but this is pretty much my only "community service" EC. I am volunteering at the museum, but the exhibits are something "significant" that I have done. So on my application, should I write "X hours at Childrens Museum" and then under it "Designed exhibits blah blah" or what?
