Is this a good idea to send to my college of choice?

Hey Guys!
I am going to be applying to Vassar College under Early Decision.
They have a "Your Space" part on the supplement where you can put what ever you want that tells more about you. I really like cooking and I am wondering if you guys think me putting 3 recipes down with descriptions on how to cook them, and why I am passionate about it will be a good idea. I really don't want to write another generic essay about myself.

Also, is sending 4 recommendation letters excessive?
I was originally planning to send 2, one from my Guidance Counselor and one from my English Teacher, but I feel like sending one from one other G.C. and my French Teacher might really be helpful(They all loved me :) ). Or would it just be way too much and frowned upon?

Thanks Guys :)

Bump  anyone have any info?

Vassar requires one recommendation so 4 would be excessive

Sent from my myTouch4GSlide using CC

Yeah, I had a feeling 4 would be a little too much, I still probably will send at least 2 though, thanks.

I feel four would be excessive unless each one sheds new light on who you are as a student and person and if it helps them gain insight from different perspectives Id say send them otherwise it just is a waste of time if they are redundant ie they say “this student is a dilligent and hard worker who is actively involved in school and in the community” if you are getting reccs like that, dont send four. Follow directions.

As for the recipe question, I would only do something witty like that if you can pull it off and if, in some way, connects to you and shows your passion for cooking, for example. Otherwise the admission officers could get confused. I know you are going for the creative touch, sometimes it works, sometimes it backfires, just depends how you execute it.

Thank you for the response, and I know the Your Space is optional, so I’m thinking that it might be better to not send anything at all. Ill probably talk to my counselor about it and show it to her before definitely sending it.

There’s a blog called orangette, and the blogger wrote a wonderful essay about cooking for her college admission essay, quite successfully. Check out the book Homemade Life by Molly Wizenberg. Any topic you are passionate about can be the subject of a well written essays, cooking is no exception.

alussaz…Are you saying it could be a “Recipe For Disaster”? /tongue/cheek

Now there’s an interesting little essay topic! :)

Regarding rec letters - 1 from a STEM teach and/or 1 from a coach/EC and/or Englishy teach is always good if they can show different parts of you.

Good Luck OP - I actually like the recipe idea - and hey- everyone like to eat, right?

I really like this recipe idea too and it will really help you stand out from the rest of the other applicants
