You possibly have a good chance but get your SAT and GPA up a little.
OP, I think you should take Sewanee off your list. It has a much more progressive, national student body than I think you realize. Most prospective students would not have Sewanee, Patrick Henry College and Hillsdale on the same list. As I mentioned on one of your other threads, when we toured Sewanee in November the female guide announced “I’m a feminist!” They have the Bairnwick Women’s Center there that “seeks to empower the Sewanee community by promoting social justice, equality and voice.” It really doesn’t seem like what you are looking for, and you would probably be uncomfortable there.
Hobart and William Smith might be an option to consider. Though they share a campus, the men have their own student government, etc. I think some of the athletic facilities are separate. No women receive a Hobart College diploma. And it is very preppy. My D was uncomfortable there, which might be an indicator that you could possibly like it.
MidwestDad: don’t make too much of that tour guide. For all you know, she may have been told to try and offset the reputation of “Sewanee as southern conservatism bastion”
Sewanee is not as conservative as the others on the list, but it’s also “The University of the South”. OP indicated he wanted a conservative-leaning college but would be fine with a variety of viewpoints, which I think Sewanee does provide.
^Well, she was quite genuine, and a very impressive student.
On multiple visits we found the school to be very progressive, like much of the south. Last visit they had an excellent art exhibit consisting of works by artists on the state’s death row. It was sobering, thought-provoking. Given what OP has said on his 60+ other threads, it is hard to see him being happy there.
I initially thought Sewanee might be a good match for OP in terms of being conservative and preppy - at least relative to many LACs. As a poster on another thread pointed out, Sewanee likely split 50-50 for Obama/Romney which, although balanced, is conservative by LAC standards. After reading other threads by OP, I don’t think it’s a good match. Sewanee is changing. The Women’s Center (WICK) is very active. Not long ago they brought Sophia Wallace’s “Cliteracy” exhibit to campus (displayed in the library no less). My D would be one of those feminists @MidwestDad3 mentioned and she is quite happy at Sewanee. The school is also pretty LGBT friendly. Yes, Sewanee still has a sizable group of preppy conservatives, but there are a lot of viewpoints now represented on campus. It’s not the homogeneous student body of yesteryear.
Pepperdine University.
For preppy and conservative students, take a look at Miami University of Ohio. Nice campus. Not very big, considering that it is a state school. Good scholarships to out of state students.
