I want to get into Astronomy/Astrophysics Major & Evolutionary Biology/Business Minor in a Prestigious College Secondary Language wise, I took 2 Year of Spanish, and I am fluent in speaking Korean. Should I add more languages or take a Language Subject Test?
This is my current Schedule:
Junior Year (11th Grade):
AP Language and Composition
Pre-Calculus
AP Biology
AP Physics I
AP Music Theory
AP Micro/Macro Economics, AP Environmental Science, or Organic and Biochemistry???
Senior Year (12th Grade):
AP Literature and Composition
AP Calculus AB
AP Statistics
AP Physics II
AP Chemistry
AP Micro/Macro Economics, AP Environmental Science, or Organic and Biochemistry???
I don’t really know what you’re asking. Are you wondering whether you can handle all of the APs, or do you want other advice?
I would say to not take 3 sciences in a year, maybe get another math in there?
I’m asking if I can handle all the AP’s Otter - also can you give me some advice on my foreign language - I only took 2 years of Spanish - should I take another year of Spanish in Junior or Senior Year?
I don’t think that anyone can predict whether you can handle that many APs without knowing what you have taken in the past and what grades you have gotten. Also you should be aware that taking so many APs will be a LOT of work and significant stress. Different students will react in different ways to the work and stress.
How are any of us supposed to know if you can handle that? We don’t know anything about your intelligence, your drive, how well you test, how hard your school is in general and/or how hard each of those particular APs are at your particular school, how involved you are with extracurriculars, etc etc etc… Sometimes I feel like kids get on here with schedules comprised of mostly or completely APs and ask absurd things like “Can I handle this?” as if we should have any inkling of an idea of whether they’re up to it or not when really they’re just looking for people to validate them and tell them how smart and impressive they are. Not saying that’s you, just saying the track record of College Confidential has no shortage of young kids with staggeringly overblown egos- don’t let yourself get sucked into that.
To me it just seems like a pretty hard schedule that someone with enough drive and somewhat above average intelligence should be able to handle no problem unless they’re doing something like working 40 hrs a week. And even then, you’re probably good to go.
In the end, this is a question you have to ask yourself and maybe people who know you well enough, but definitely not a bunch of random people who know nothing about you. CC is good for a lot of things, but making predictions about the lives of people we know nothing about isn’t one of them. In my opinion, the best person to ask is your GC. Email him/her, talk to your parents, close friends, and then think about it on your own, considering how important work/life balance is for you and things like that. Also remember that in the end, it’s you who decide. NOT bragging here, just giving an example from my experience- I took every AP in my school and no one but myself thought that was the right thing to do because no one in the school’s history has ever done that before and I’m heavily involved outside of school. Everyone said it was a horrible idea, and my GC literally said she “strongly advised against it,” but I knew I could do it and did it anyway and it turned out to be brutal but the best decision of my life. Challenging yourself like that stretches you like you’ve never been stretched before and does a lot of building up of confidence and character. With that in mind, however, as Darth Vader would say- “Don’t choke on your ambition.” Sinking yourself is never fun.
TL;DR Go to people who are actually relevant in asking for advice, and then decide for yourself based on the information you get from them. Then dive in head first and show that schedule what you’re made of.
If it were me, I’d take a 3rd year of Spanish. Some colleges are looking for 3 or even 4 years of a foreign language. When they are looking at your transcript speaking Korean may or may not count
Some colleges like to see three, or even four years of a foreign language. You haven mentioned that you want to go to a pretty good college, and they might like to see that.
Spanish is a pretty easy class, but would it have to replace something else? I think that for your purposes, science and math would be more important, if its one or the other.
Maybe talk to your guidance counselor, though
