Recently, I received an email from the assistant swim coach at Carleton giving me information about Carleton's swim team. She said the admissions office told her I was interested in swimming (but I never contacted the coach before because I don't want to do varsity). Does this mean anything with regards to admissions, or do you think the swim coach sent out an email to every applicant who swam on their high school team?

When I submitted the pre-data form, the swim coach contacted me right away (which was really cool!) It won't affect your admissions chances unless you swim varsity, however. If you planned to swim on the team, the coaches would give the admissions office a rating from 1-10 on how you would impact the team based on your times.

The Carleton swim team as been the most proactive in contacting my D of all the schools she applied to (and while she could contribute to the team she wouldn't be a star). I think they are just good at marketing.
