Is THIS adequate?

Are a 790 mathIIc and 770 chem adequate for schools like stanford? I am worried because I am interested in engineering and it would be good if I had at least one 800. Are these scores too low or have I been hanging around cc too much? I am genuinely worried about my chances because I my EC's are not that strong.

Why don't you want to just retake?

They're a little low - Remember that 800 IIc is 90th percentile. However, it's more than adequate if you can show through your classes that you are good in those subject areas.

Those are beautiful scores. They are really excellent, don't worry about them.

Thanks guys Im really down now seeing that people with stats like mine usually get rejected =(. I was just wondering, would it look like im some crazyh perfectionist (which im not) if I retook both of those?

Seeing people with stats like yours getting rejected should send the message that test scores are not everything. Spend the extra time working on your college essays/applications and beefing up your ECs.

Personal anecdote: A friend of mine (val of class) had gpa probably around 4.5-4.6 with a 1450 and 2370 combined on his 3 SAT IIs and was rejected from Stanford. His ECs weren't particularly strong and I do not know anything about his essays. This just goes to show you that applicants to HYPSM all have high grades and scores, so make yourself stand out in other ways.

Yeah but I was looking at the stanford board with the rd results and generally the kids with mostly 800's and were 1st or 2nd got in, while kids with like 790's and 770's and were 6th or 7th in their class were rejected. However, even though the college know either way that I didnt ace it from the first time, wouldnt it be good to let them know that I am capable of a perfect score?

Sorry to double post but I am just wondering, will retaking them to try to ace them seem like "typical perfectionism" and be grounds for rejection, or will it help me to show I am capable?

well it's a gamble, daturtle, if you retake them and do worse, then yeah, but if you retake them and do better, then no, but 790 for math IIc is still a great score anyway

Well, a kid in my school who was, i think 10th in rank, not great gpa, only a 4.2 all H and AP classes weighted in, got in (H and AP classes were about the only classes he took so he had a 3.8 unweighted gpa).

He had good essays and good ecs. Test grades are not everything and a 770 is not the end of the world.

Well, what about SAT I old form V750 M800, SAT II Lit. 670 USH 680 IIC 740? (I don't want to see the percentiles for this SAT II) I'm going to major in English. Any chance of the Ivies?

You've got to be kidding me. 790 and 770 are excellent scores for anybody. Save yourself the extra studying and worrying and just be happy with the good scores you got, which are in fact very good.

Sometimes the difference between a perfect 800 and a 790/780/770 is only one or two questions, depending on the curve. The fact of the matter is that your scores are very good scores and taking it again for a difference of between 30 and 10 points might actually hurt instead of help IMHO.
