I got a letter VIA snail mail from Penn dated March 21, 2012. It stated that my financial aid package cannot be completed until my 2011 tax returns are mailed in.

Is this a sign of acceptance ? I know of 2 other people who are missing their 2011 tax returns but didn't receive the letter. If it was sent as an email, I wouldn't pay attention to it, but it was sent through snail mail.

Hmmm. Well my daughter has NOT submitted our 2011 tax returns yet EITHER , but we didn’t receive that letter. Although that is not looking good for my daughter, I’ll venture a guess that especially since it was via snail mail to you, it’s looking like a positive sign for you…congrats, if it is!!!

I got the same thing. For what it’s worth I thought I had no chance of getting into Penn, I have scores lower than the 50% margin and not so amazing ECs. So I don’t think it means anything, since I applied to Penn knowing I would have no chance.

Although a different school and therefore possibly meaningless insofar as Penn, previously my daughter did get an EMAIL like that from Bryn Mawr and then a couple of weeks later she did get accepted to Bryn Mawr…

Where do all of you live??? I want to have some hope that maybe my daughter will get that letter tomorrow–if we are slightly farther away from Penn than you are … (but unfortunately we are not that far away, LOL) …

Well again I got the letter but logically I have no chance in hell of getting into Penn. 2100 SAT, terrible SAT IIs, average ECs, no hooks. I just applied there on a whim. Even my essays were rushed. So if this letter was only sent to accepted applicants I’d be very surprised.

It makes no sense to me why they would waste the money on the stationary, envelope, and postage – so late in the game when they probably already have all the decisions made…

So I guess the letter is not an indication, because some people who received it think they are not getting in. I don’t understand why they would send it through snail mail and not just an email.

WAMPUM, that sounds AWFUL promising!!!
And re: the posters who think they can’t get in because of stats–that’s not true. I’m an alum and my stats were low and I had no hooks, but I guess something special about me shone through - although that was a long time ago. But my daughter has gotten accepted at places where her stats are low for those schools and she not only got accepted but got merit scholarships at them too, because their admissions and merit scholarships are holistically decided. So, papertank, you are probably special in some way that Penn recognizes (even if some other schools don’t recognize it) and my hunch is that you and the others receiving that letter are probably getting good news Thursday…but that’s just my guess…

I don’t have any pink envelope… mine is addressed to me from University of Pennsylvania Student Financial Services. It has the last four digits of my SSN, name address etc. I live in Michigan btw and it took 5 days to arrive

DEAR <my name=“”></my>

Please note that your financial aid application is incomplete.
As of the date of this letter, we have not yet received the following:

Parent’s Most Recent Tax Return and W2’s

We cannot proceed with your evaluation until we receive these documents. etc etc.

But at the end it says: If you have any questions, email us at sfsmail@sfs.upenn.edu and include your full name AND CLASS YEAR (2016).

Very interesting…making me more nervous for Thursday :)

Did you send your parents’ 2010 tax returns? I’m grasping at straws trying to find some hope for my daughter – we sent the 2010 tax returns a long time ago, but never sent the 2011 tax returns because they’re not done yet…Quesadilla, the wording of that letter maybe is only for people who never sent any tax returns at all (not even 2010 tax returns) ??

Mine is different… Mine includes a pink envelope for me to mail back the document and on the envelope it says “top priority freshman/transfer”

Then it has a yellow sheet that says "our office has reviewed your application for financial assistance. Unfortunately, we will require the following additional information before we are able to determine your eligibility for financial aid.

It is important to reply immediately… Blah blah blah…

There is also a cover sheet to send my info

On the top of the yellow sheet it says, “if blank, penn student should complete this section”
