Is this Appropriate for a College Essay?

About a year ago, I was in a car crash in which a friend of mine drove his parents’ van into a motorcycle. He initially wanted to drive the van, but later on asked me to do so. I was the only one with a license, but I had never driven a van before and didn’t want to try it for the first time, so I refused. I wanted to write about how this incident taught me to think more carefully about the degree of responsibility that myself and others carry in any given situation, and how because of this I took responsibility and got a 4.0 in my junior year despite moving across the country and switching high schools in the middle of the year. Is this car crash situation too negative to write about in a college essay?

I would not write about this topic, mainly because you implicate yourself in illegal activity. You willingly got into a car with someone you knew did not have a license and allowed them to drive. It doesn’t matter what you learned from it; it’s a bad topic.

^^ Agree with the above poster. I don’t see how the 4.0 connects to the car crash. The biggest takeaway is that it shows is that you have bad judgment and get into dangerous situations.

Thanks for the honesty.

Thank you
