Is this bad? I took the PSAT and got my projected SAT scores.

Section Projected SAT Score Range
Critical Reading 550 to 650
Math 480 to 590
Writing 590 to 700

As you can see, the Math section isn't my strongest. I think I ended up getting around an 1800 on my PSAT (but I didn't study at all). How can I prepare for the Math section? I have about one month before I have to take the SAT...

What do you mean, “have to”? Take the SAT when you are prepared for it. What were your actual PSAT scores?

I’m not even sure really. I’m thinking math was somewhere in the 500s. The English parts were probably in the 600s. I don’t know where my actual PSAT scores are…

Why don’t you know your actual PSAT scores?

What score should I be aiming for on the Math part if I want my collective score to be above a 2000?

don’t stress about PSATS. for real i got a 144 in sophmore year and then a 166 in junior year. then in junior year when i took the SATS for the first time, i broke 2000, so i don’t really think they’re a good translation. because i thought like judging from my PSATs i wouldn’t be going to college lol.

Is that your sophomore PSAT? Regardless of what people say on here, PSAT scores are a pretty good indicator of how well you will do on the SAT. For example, here is my “test history”:

Sophomore Year PSAT: 175
Junior Year PSAT: 219
Junior Year SAT: 2230

Just about all the improvements can be attributed to studying/learning stuff throughout school.

^how is it a good indicator if your score jumpred so high? what if you never learned the maerial until after you have taken the psats?

My PSAT’s suxed however I’ve already been able to score a 2,010 on my SAT 610 CR, 700 Math , Writing 700.

My PSAT’s suxed since I honestly didn’t take it seriously as the Real SAT ( I do wish I had taken the PSAT seriously though).

Now I’m retaking the SAT once again in May and am aiming for 2200+

I took PSATs and got 200. I took SATs even after studying and only got 2030. Though I will say my math jumped 70 points and my critical reading fell 50 points.

PSATs are not a good indicator of performance. Performance changes with time.
Sophomore Year PSAT: 176
Junior Year PSAT: 199
Junior Year SAT: 2230

You realize that our PSATs in soph year were almost the same. Junior year PSATs differed tremendously, yet we have the same SAT scores.

In addition, I’m retaking next week, and am aiming for a 2350+ superscore. (I have 800s in M and W). So never let your PSAT discourage you.

For your reference:
Freshman PSAT: 188
Sophmore PSAT:200
Junior PSAT: 209: 77CR/ 67 M/ 65W
Junior SAT: 2100: 800 CR/ 690 M/ 610 W

So my PSAT correlated almost exactly to my SAT. no studying though.

PSATs have a much harsher curve in most cases I believe. You will do somewhat better on the SATs and you will get a lot better as time passes.

Freshman PSAT: 209 74M 74W 61CR
Freshman practice Blue Book SAT: 2100-2250 (690-740CR ; 720-760M;710-750W)

Mind you, I have been practicing and studying for the SATs, and hope to just naturally increase my way to a 2300+ :)

There’s some great tips on this website, especially Noitaraperp’s Attacking the Critical Reading Section effectively.

Good Luck!!

my psat scores were

freshman year: 166
sophomore year: 176
junior year: 187
junior SAT: 2240
…so for me there was definitely no correlation, although my psat scores did increase at a steady rate…who knows!
