Is this bad?

<p>Most of application is above average except for one thing. I am a full candidate for the IB diploma and I may be predicted 5 or 6 for IB HL Math (everything else is 7 including Economics HL, which I hope makes up for it). Normally, I wouldn't be worried because I know 40 or 41/42 is still a great score but I am applying to AEM.</p>

<p>How bad is a 5 or a 6 in Math HL at business schools (I think it is the equivalent of getting 3 or 4 in Calculus BC)?</p>

<p>Also, would math awards and 800 on the SAT II Math make up for it?</p>

<p>jebarpolsky, where are you planning on applying? i think that a 7 in everything is amazing, with one 6/5 (hopefully 6, which is a gooood score). you’ll be fine unless you’re applying for some math program, which you aren’t. how are your SATs?</p>

<p>There’s no way to preempt an 800 JebarPolsky. Near that score, it’s more a matter of luck (carefulness) and your test-taking skills (how calm you are in an exam hall, etc.).</p>

<p>Since IB math HL is somewhat similar to GCE A Level Math I am pretty sure a predicted 5 score would hurt your application for the AEM program considerably. An A or 7 shows proficiency and a 6 or B is still excusable but a 5 would be really hard to argue out of. My advice: suck up to your math department head (or whoever determines predicted grades at your school) like crazy. This just might push a 5 to a 6 or a 6 to a 7. ;)</p>

<p>From what I have heard, GCE A level math is a joke in terms of difficulty, so I was under the assumption that in terms of A levels, a 7 would be an A* and a 6 would be a higher end A.</p>

<p>The A* grade was only instituted this year buddy. I can’t really say which program is more difficult since I never did IB, but I do know people who did and their courses were VERY similar to A level Math. ‘Further Math’ in A level kills IB Math though and a lot of students interested in Business/Engineering take that and still get A’s. However, even a school like Oxford considers just A level Math sufficient prep for their math major. A predicted 5 score on IB Math HL would hurt your app. But since you made an 800 on SAT Math, it’s not all bad.</p>

<p>Oh ok. I just have a friend who is doing IB with me (HL Math) and doing A levels on the side, optionally, to look good with universities. He is currently attaining a 4/5 in HL math, while achieving an A in A level math.</p>

it is a holistic process though, so your other accomplishments could outweigh that one, single predicted score. Good luck with every thing! Going by your resume you’re pretty much set for every school (PROBABLY even HYPSM).
Did you decide where you’re ED’ing?</p>

<p>Haha thanks. I decided on Wharton because my June scores just came in for the SAT. I think the CR score is messed up so I am opting for a hand written score verification (way too low and I know myself). If it doesn’t change then I have a decent score in terms of single sitting but my super-score is 120 points higher.</p>
