Do you think it would be crazy I plan to take all the prerequisites for veterinary school while working on a music performance major at FSU?

I'm trying to decide between UF and FSU, and while UF has this awesome combination degree that allows me to be a music major with an outside field, I just loooove FSU's school of music.

I believe double majors with music are available at both schools. Both schools have some great programs. I know UF has a program specifically for veterinary, too.

Did you already audition at UF and FSU and get accepted into their music schools? What did you think of both school’s audition processes? Anything you liked more at one than the other? Just curious… S is contemplating several FL schools for when he goes to college (music/double major) and it is hard to decide!

that would be 196 credits. Lets say you have 45 credits from AP courses already. That is still 151 credits and dividing this by 30 credits will equate to five years of study. With only 15 AP credits it will equate to 6 years of study. If you are willing to spend 5-6 years in university taking very rigorous courses go ahead, but i think it would be better and more pragmatic to just pick one and go to graduate school instead of wasting time and money on an extra year or two just so you can have a double engineering majors. That is my 2 cents.

I’ve only auditioned at UF, which I was accepted into, and my FSU audition is on the 27th. I really liked the UF audition process because it was really casual and there weren’t millions of kids there. There were separate Q&A sessions for both parents and kids, so that was really helpful. I auditioned in a small office with three professors who were basically lounging on couches, so I really didn’t feel nervous at all.

Well the reason why I’m iffy about double majoring is because I’ve heard that usually one degree or the other suffers, especially with a music degree. So I don’t know if it makes sense or if it is practical to just take the prerequisites, which to me sounds a whole lot easier than earning a degree in biology. But then there is the question of whether I’ll be qualified enough for vet school with just the prerequisites…
Ahh so confused!

Oh, and I’ll have taken seven AP classes by end of senior year… I don’t know how many credits that is though.

You sound as if you’ve thought about this quite a bit. I think you have good questions for advisors at both schools. I’d also contact a vet school and ask if a student with a solid minor in biology (plus other prerequisites such as organic chemistry) would be a viable candidate for admissions. Good luck!

-Thanks for your input. haha that was a dumb question to ask anyway. They have a major called “computational biology” which is pretty much computer science+biology together. Then again, college is about exploring your options.
