Is this crazy?

Do you think it's possible to double major in computer science and international relations? Or maybe major in computer science and minor in international relations? I know they have nothing in common but I just think I would like doing both of them and I really can't decide. I do know a lot of computer science due to the Romanian curriculum so that's why I thought maybe I could do two things at a time.
I looked at the course requirements but I can't really know how much time consuming they are.

well, its certainly possible. I am majoring in CS and econ, and they have nothing in common too. And you will have till your sophomore year to declare majors which gives you plenty of time to decide. CS is no doubt time consuming, but its not unmanageable.

That’s the advantages of liberal arts college!

Thank you for your answers. This just makes me even more anxious to attend Colgate.

I know students who double-majored in Computer Science and Japanese, Biology and Japanese and someone who was a Philosophy major who was also pre-med (it’s not a major but takes nearly as many courses). It’s definitely possible to double-major in completely unrelated subjects and even study abroad (though it should probably be for one of your majors).

Sure, you can. Some students who are Pre-Med or something don’t feel they have enough time for literature, art, etc. But that’s their choice.

If you want to go in two directions, do it! One of the great things about small liberal arts colleges (and Colgate isn’t that small but 2800 students) is that they are very receptive to interesting combinations of courses. They don’t want you to be one dimensional. And they really don’t want everyone to be an English major! They’d probably love to make you a foreign policy / computer expert!

I know lots of pre-law students who study foreign languages. And lots of history majors who paint. And some scientists who write poetry. Don’t be one-dimensionally boring.

You might call the school (Admissions) and ask your question to one of the experts there, and ask them what they think, if you’re really worried.

does anyone know how to start a new thread on this site?!
