I am really worried about my chances at schools such as PA, PEA, DA, St. Pauls, Hotchkiss, Choate, Groton, Cate, Etc. I don’t have that many EC’s or achievements. I have been playing Water Polo for 6 years, I’m good, but not great. Yearbook committee for 3 years, no leadership, French club, a local book club, After school math classes (Most advanced level). For achievements, I have had high honor roll my whole life, and have been invited to pretty good water polo tournaments. Do I have any chance, or not?
Some of the schools on your list don’t offer water polo. Is that something you want to continue with? That activity would carry some weight at those schools with a team but little to no weight if not.
Here’s a little secret: ** everyone **is * really/i worried about their chances at schools such as PA PEA, DA, St. Pauls, Hotchkiss, Choate, Groton, Cate, Etc.
Trust me when I say that you don’t need every EC and ever achievement known to man to get into these schools. I was mortified when I saw what some of my fellow applicants had achieved in comparison to myself: don’t worry. I’m from the middle of nowhere Colorado; there are like two clubs in my entire school.
I had a good SSAT score and grades, along with a good amount of community service. The part where I really stood out in my application was my interview and essays.
I’m not going to babble on here about how awards and ECs and such aren’t detrimental, but keep that in mind.
Please PM me if you have any questions at all: I know how overwhelming this whole experience can be :)>- .
Here’s a bit of advice: for the most part, it’s not the about the where you receive the education, it’s about how you use it. I used to play water polo myself and my brother plays on a Junior Olympic winning team in Southern California.

Yeah, it’s enough. Don’t worry about it. You have the capability to get in. Water polo for 6 years is impressive even if you’re not the best. It shows dedication. You’re obviously a gifted student and you have sought enriching extracurriculars, which ought to impress any admissions official.
Have your water polo coach reach out to the coaches at these schools and see if you play a position or have something they need. That will give you a better sense on whether your water polo can help you. Do you have other hooks?
