Hi everyone,

I just finished my first semester at a state university and did really well. Last spring I was unfortunately released from the Columbia waitlist. Given that it was my top choice, and I still really like Columbia for many reasons, I'm going to try my chances again.

Among other reasons for transferring, such as there being more engineering opportunities in NYC compared to where I am now, would it be okay to include that I am looking for an atmosphere where students are more academically dedicated? In contrast to the state university I'm at now I mean. Is there a fine line that I need to be aware of between highlighting why Columbia is better and actually dissing my current school? Like for example, is it appropriate in saying that Columbia does something better than my current school? Or saying that there is something I don't like about my current school?

Thanks guys!
