I’m a student who kinda bullshitted my way through high school.
-I have a 3.5 unweighted GPA
-Got a 22 on my ACT (took it to prove I could get a 30 on the Math- which I did)
-Did PSEO (same thing as dual enrollment)
-Have taken a multiple AP courses
(I’m aware I should’ve taken school more seriously but it’s senior year and there isn’t much I could do to change it.)
For any college you’re considering, google “common data set: college name” and look at section C. There, you’ll see the stats range of admitted freshmen.
@LifeSucks I responded to your other thread. The big question you need to be asking yourself is NOT whether these are good enough stats for UMN (they are - for some applicants, at some of the admitting colleges, and w/o considering other aspects of your application).
The big question is whether you should be doing college next year. Think about that one. The adcom will look at your entire application, not just your stats, and unless they see a demonstrated interest and determination to succeed at, as well as adequate preparation for, college, they will likely NOT accept you. FWIW.
I enjoyed most of my AP courses and have done extremely well in most but I would sign up for the courses for the wrong reasons. My group of friends took only honors and AP courses- so i kinda followed their lead. As for my PSEO courses, I only took them so I could take less classes my senior year- (i.e. I took AP Euro and IB history- as well as a semester of Gen Psychology at PSEO). I wasn’t going into it with the mindset of challenging myself. Is my ACT what they look at for college readiness?
A 3.5 unweighted isn’t terrible. Can you do some test prep and retake the ACT? Or try the SAT? If you could get that score up to a 26-28, it would improve your chances.
They will look at uw GPA, Class Rank (if available), ACT and course rigor. But they will also evaluate your application in terms of whether you put forth effort, worked to your potential, and were focused and disciplined in your studies. Your 22 ACT is right above the national average; yet you got a 30 in Math so right there they are going to have some questions (like: what happened on the remaining sections of the test??? Did you try to re-take? etc.).
How are you doing on your dual-enrollment courses?
I have only taken 6 courses (total of 23 credits)- 2 English, 2 Science, a Social Study as well as a world language. I plan to take 4 more courses next semester. I’ve only got one B, the rest were in the 93-97% range. By the end of this semester, I will have completed 4 years for every subject except math. I am taking AP Calc which is a full year course.
