I received a letter from West Point today which read:

"The Admissions Office has received all your information and the Admissions Committee had reviewed your application and you have been found fully qualified."

It goes on to day I still need a nomination and I need to continue to pursue success academically and athletically.

I am cautious to believe this is really an LOA because I never thought it would come. Has anyone seen this wording, and does anybody know if this is really an LOA? I would appreciate any feedback on this.

Congratulations! The Admissions Committee has recommended you for an appointment to the United States Military Academy (USMA). Accordingly, I have reserved a cadetship for you contingent upon medical qualification, candidate fitness qualification, continued excellent work in school, and file completion. You must send the Admission Office your Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) results, the Candidate Personal Data Record, the Request for Secondary School Transcript, the School Official's Evaluations, the Candidate Activities Record, and the Candidate Statement by October 15, 2006 or this letter of assurance will be withdrawn. When these matters are resolved, you will be appointed a member of the USMA Class of 2011....

Sorry, the letter you received is not a letter of assurance. The purpose of the letter is to inform you that you have been found fully qualified..physically, medically, and academically. Your file will go before the Board for consideration some time in the future. Congratulations on being found fully qualified..it is definitely a step in the right direction.

does anyone know if this letter is sent out to all those who have been found as just passing the minimum qualifiactions to be moved on to further review, or is it a letter that might bring some hope with it, perhaps stating that my file looks pretty good so far, or does everyone get it?

The letter is sent out to everyone who is fully qualified and has met the minimum standards that WP is looking for (and they have high standards). It means that you are competitive (many applicants are not), so congratulations!

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this (sorry; new here), but what exactly did you guys, who have gotten a letter of assurance, have completed, application wise, when you got your letter of assurance? Did you have the application completely filled out?

What if the letter says you have been placed on the national wait list? The Congressional nominations haven't been announced for our state yet. Could they be waiting for that? Already have a Presidential-Child DV.

Good news everyone- my MALO told me I was bumped up from competitive status to admissible status! Also, I found out I'm only one of two people in my district that is under admissible status (the other guy already got a LOA). So basically, he said all I got to do is wow my congressman and get the primary nomination and I'm golden. The fights not over, but I'm slowly making progress. =)

I remember when I was bumped to Admissible - my MALO pretty much stated the same thing. With the new status of Admissible, you are going to be a prime candidate when your vote goes to the council.

does getting a letter of assurance almost guarantee your acceptance? I just got one of 'em today, and it states that I have to turn my application and stuff by February 18th. Woot!
