The other day, I recieved a letter of assurance. I understand what it means for the most part, but it was talking about a bunch of forms I need to turn in, and a Candidate Statement I need to do. Does anyone know what this is, and if they are going to send me the forms I need to send in?

Congratulations!
The "bunch of forms" is the 2nd Step application. Since you received a LOA early - admissions wants you to complete the balance in a timely manner so they know you are still interested.

You will get your 2nd step application shortly in the mail. It will have all the "forms" you need.

Banglin08 - Congratulations on your loa! Do you already have a nomination or are you still working on that? Can you share with us your grades/gpa/sat/cfa results, etc..stats that helped you get your loa? Thats the best news you can get. Is USMA your number one choice?

Super Job

Ya, Im still working on my nominations. They are a killer, but it is all worth it in the end.

uh, well, I'll post my stats I guess, its just sort of embarrassing cuz Im not one of those kind of people =P lol, so uh well my grades are in the high 90's and I aim for nothing below a 95, GPA is only a 3.86 but we also don't have any AP classes and not many honors classes, sat is 1340 without the writing, CFA is my strong point- at SS, I won it for the girls, and had the most sit-ups out of everyone- BUT I also cant even do any pull-ups. I guess what helped me the most is Im really involved with everything, Sports and school and volunteering and everything else, and Im 1st in my class.

Yes, West Point is my first choice y far. lol, I have no desire to go anywhere, but I am being smart and applying for regular colleges as well =D I just hope I get my nomination!!!

Thanks for posting. I can see why you got a loa. 3.86 is good especially since you dont have AP classes, mos people have higher gpa's cuz they have the ap's which ive them a little more points. You did good on your sat's too, I heard that plays a big role in picks.
U should have no problems getting a noimation, just get them in cuz wp will tell the congressionals who is there top choices. so good luck

BAnglin,

Congratulations to you on receiving one of the early LOA's this year! You have a great profile. It sounds like you're on top of everything. Get those nomination requests in, prep for your interviews. Your MOC's should know that you have an LOA.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

thanks yall, I really appreciate the compliments, makes me feel good =D and Im taking the SATs again in October because I didnt study the first time, silly me =P
Also, I'm not sure what MOC's are, which probably makes me sound stupid, but I'm guessing from 'context clues' they are my senators and congressman? could you help me out on this one..

^^^^^
MOC = Member of Congress

I'm curious, if you get an LOA does your status change on the candidate login?

wait I thought LOA meant you are guaranteed to go to West Point. But I'm guessing not. Right?

"I'm curious, if you get an LOA does your status change on the candidate login?"

It didn't used to. Cant say for sure about this year though.

"I thought LOA meant you are guaranteed to go to West Point. But I'm guessing not. Right?"

It means a spot is being reserved for you assuming you complete the application, pass DODMERB, pass the physical fitness test, and get a nomination.

The real advantage of having an LOA is that your appointment does not count in the MOC's slate of nominees. In other words, LOA candidates who receive nominations and are fully qualified will receive an appointment. The MOC does not have to make the LOA candidate a primary choice because he knows the candidate will get in. The LOA candidate could even be ranked #10 on a slate of 10 and it won't matter. If there are 3 LOA candidates in the same congressional district the MOC can nominate 7 others and know that 3 are in for sure and at least 1 more has a strong shot if fully qualified. Even those MOC's who do not rank candidates on their slate are glad to know that others from their districts will receive appointments. (Clear as mud? I didn't sleep last night,)

Yes, having an LOA takes a candidate out of the fight to be "top dog" in whatever nomination pool a candidate is competing in. They merely need to receive "a nomination".

When you go for your congressional interviews, take the LOA with you and also mention you have one when you check in for the interview. They will probably want a copy of it for their file.

Good Luck!

You can go one step further and mail a copy of your LOA to your MOCs ahead of time (with your application file if you haven't submitted it yet). In our state, only one senator does interviews. Before the interviews, his staff called my son to find out if he already had a nomination and when my son said yes, he said "congratulations" and automatically took him off his list. He knew that LOA candidates only needed 1 nomination and so moved on to the other candidates on his list....

Just wondering about how many LOA's are sent out each year and how many LOA recipients are accepted to the school. I have my LOA and now am fretting the CFA which is going to, I fear, detract from my application.

If you have an LOA, all you have to do is pass the CFA.
Good luck!

sorry i posted twice, i posted while on invisible mode and when i realized that, i changed my settings and went back to thread, only to not find it.. :( so i posted again and realized that it was on the second page... oops

Inhibitor, the CFA is not a hard test. I'm sure you will pass it without a problem.
