Is this right? Thanks everyone~

Help a NYS student find some business schools that he can get into and whether he's being realistic?

I want to be an actuary in the future. So I guess I should major in actuarial science? I could do finance, economics, or applied mathematics I guess. Thanks!

Would this be about right?

Reaches: NYU, Boston University
Matches: SUNY Binghamton, Pepperdine University
Safeties: CUNY Baruch

I actually think Pepperdine is a high safety for you.

Okay everything else is okay? And any other suggestions for schools I can add?

Put Boston U under match.

Binghamton is the best SUNY for Math and Business. Probably the best value college in your list closely followed by CUNY Baruch.

Washington and Jefferson College
University of Pittsburgh

Pepperdine? How’d that get in there?

You do not need to major in actuarial science to become an actuary. Very few actuaries do. Any math-heavy major will work. The advantage of an actuarial science major is that the coursework includes focus and prep for the first few actuarial exams. Few colleges even have an actuarial major, though many offer an actuarial track for math majors.

FYI, I personally know 5 actuaries that went to Binghamton.

To be honest, I put Pepperdine because Malibu seems beautiful and I heard that it wasn’t terrible for business. I wasn’t really planning on majoring in Actuarial science. What do you recommend majoring in? Finance or Applied Mathematics seems like a good choice.

If you want to be an actuary, applied math would be better than finance. I would also recommend an actuarial track or concentration. A minor or dual major in economics is also a good idea. Check out beanactuary.org for more info, as well as the websites of schools which you are interested.

Gotcha, thank you! Any recommendations for some schools to look into Chardo? Thanks a bunch (:

What are your preferences (size, location, vibe, etc.)? What is your budget?

I’m really not too picky. I just want a school in a place like NY, Boston, Cali, etc. I don’t really know how to put it. I just wanna know what the best schools I have a decent chance at with my grades. .-.
