I know that there are many other factors that are important to a student’s application, but I also know that GPA and test scores are basically the weed out sections of most college application process. If you test scores does not make the cut off, they throw the application straight to the denied files. What I want to know if this is highly possible to happen with me.
My highest SAT score is 1480, however my highest verbal is 720 and my highest math score is 800. This means my superscore is 1520.
Since most of the top colleges I am applying to superscore, will this 1520 be enough, or should I retake the test in October?
“Top colleges” is a pretty broad description of the schools you’re applying to. I would look into the average scores of accepted students at each of the schools you’re applying to, and see where your 1520 falls (assuming the scores these schools report are superscored).
Don’t bother retaking. You have an 800 in math which will look great for CS. Understand that if you are an unhooked candidate, your chances at any of the schools you mentioned is tiny regardless of your test score. Concentrate on the other areas of your application and please, please, please spend time identifying some excellent safety schools that you would be happy to attend. Its the best gift you can give yourself.
