Is this sentence clear enough?

In the section of the common app where you have to explain what have you been doing since you graduated from high school I included this sentence:

"I have been attending a “cram school” because my high school didn’t have enough emphasis on some subjects that are fundamental for my intended major (namely biology, organic chemistry and physics). "

Is it hard to understand? Awkward?

It is very awkward. Also, state what you wanted to accomplish without bashing your high school: "I have been attending a "cram school" to explore biology, organic chemistry & physics in more depth" or something along those lines. Leave out the parenthetical.

Thanks! I have a tendency to write that kind of rude sentences...I hope I can get rid of it.
