Is this too much? Should I not do it?

<p>I met the Dean of Lehigh a while ago. He really was very helpful and I have previously contacted him. Would it be too much for me to wish him a Merry Christmas and happy new year?</p>

<p>Is that too personal? </p>

<p>I'm not planning on doing it to increase my chances of getting in. I honestly just feel like it would be a nice thing to do.</p>

<p>Let’s be honost here. If you seriously wanted to do it our of pure sincerity, you would wish every aquaintance of yours a Merry Christmas, in that case, because that is all he is to you. Truthfully, you are hoping it shines you in a good light, so he will think well of you, and hoping that it will possibly help you a bit with admission. Chances are he’ll see through it, but if you want to, you should go ahead and do it. Just at least be honest about your reasoning here. ;)</p>

<p>a college sent me a somewhat personal merry christmas message, wondering if i should just reply “merry christmas & happy new year to you too” or something…i really dont have much to say to them but they keep emailing and i dont want to be rude D:</p>

<p>^born2dance, how do you know I don’t wish every acquaintance of mine a Merry Christmas? I’m just questioning this because it’s a totally different situation. But I understand your point. If he’ll see through it, I don’t wanna do it.</p>

<p>I wouldn’t send any holiday greeting to the Dean. If you want to send a greeting to him, do it AFTER you are accepted. It can be a note of thanks.</p>

<p>^Hoping4UC…I don’t think you should. What you’re referring to seems like an email that colleges send to everyone on their mailing list. Just marketing really. How personal was it? Did you apply to this school?</p>

<p>well it is an international school that only gets like 5 (at most) US applications lol… so i know it is personal and not an automated message going to 100s of people :P</p>

<p>i havent applied yet but will be mailing my app in this week
they have been emailing me quite a bit with stuff like “here is a link to a video w/ a US girl celebrating thanksgiving at xyz uni, happy holidays!” and i havent responded to any…yet</p>
