Is this topic okay?

I'm not going to school for a couple years but I'm already thinking about my essay. I plan to major in performing arts and pursue a career in theatre, so I was wondering if this essay topic would be okay. I want to write about how I've found my passion in acting since I was six, and the journey I've been on since then, finding myself and letting go of the people who don't support me. Is this boring or clich

While it isn’t the “most unique idea everrrrrrrr,” it is a decent topic. Just make sure it means something to you and that you’ll be able to put your heart and soul into it. Something I learned in this app process is that the topic matters much, much less than you think; it really is how you write it that counts. Many others might choose to write about a similar journey, but make sure that once you’re done, only you were able to write what you wrote.

thanks for the advice!! :)

It sounds like a really interesting idea. I wrote on a similar topic in one of my essays!
Look, all topics have probably been used one time or another, it’s how you write that counts. You cannot reject a topic just because you think it’s overused, if you’re passionate about something, then you write well on it, plain and simple, and if you write well on a topic, then you make a good impression. I think a lot of people in performing arts have a similar story, but it still makes an interesting read.

awesome, thanks so much :)

If you’re an amazing writer you can write about anything and make it great! Have confidence in your paper, and display your passion and it will be great :)

chippedtea is so right above. It’s how you write it… and trying to find a unique topic is so overrated.

Here is some advice on how to write your essay: Show, don’t tell!!! How do you do that? You create a “scene” like a movie script, to show you at an important point along your path to who you are now. And, like a movie, it is very important to show a “story arc” (sometimes called character development - and the main character is YOU). Your brief description above of what you want to wirte about contains that character development. And it is important to show a stronger, more confident YOU at the end of the essay. Here is an example from the book Concise Advice: Jump-Starting Your College Applications Essays:
