Hmm.. I thought Ivies were mostly made of nerds, semi-nerdy people.
Can anyone confirm? (watch the vid), because I'm more of a person who likes to hang out with ppl, watch movies, etc, but not party (I'm a strict christian, and I also dont drink)

so-called "nerdy" people don't get into the ivy league, unless they have published several award winning novels. everyone at cornell and elsewhere is normal and w/e. there are no more parties here than at other schools in the ivy league, or less for that matter. if you simply enjoy hanging out and watching movies, that's totally cool and many people also like the same things, although i would say that the majority do "go out" whether or not they get black out drunk and have premarital sex or just walk into a party, have a small drink and hang out for a while. "nerdy" kids go to like MIT, Carnegie Mellon et cetera. of course, there are exceptions.

anyhow, you might find, perhaps, that you would have fun being in a fraternity, for example, even if you do not drink or just drink very little. the concept of "partying" is quite vague, you can, again, go crazy like many do, or you simply go out with friends, it's very different.

Cornell is a huge school so you should be able to find friends of any type. A lot of people go out. It's impossible to avoid them if you're walking outside on a Friday or Saturday night. But, if you are the type who likes to hang out, watch movies, you will also find plenty of people who like to do that. In fact, I, myself, lean more towards that (although I like to go out a couple of times a month).

Yea i'm pretty much in the same boat as you, but like they said, the place is enormous...you, and hopefully I, will be fine. Also, there were massive amounts of threads about this stuff earlier

Yeah , their parties start on thursday! But i mean it's such a big school everything is going on every day so i'm sure you can find something to do, like watch a movie..go to one of the clubs organized by students or watch an a cappella concert..many students here party, but there are also the type that stay in their dorms and chat too

"so-called "nerdy" people don't get into the ivy league, unless they have published several award winning novels. everyone at cornell and elsewhere is normal and w/e."

besides the fact that these statements are false, they completely contradict each other.

...nerdy kids (kids with amazing stats?) have to do something amazing, but if you're a pretty cool kid, you just have to be "normal?" I'm sure that's the case.

I think what he is saying is that having high stats is great. But alot of people nerds or not have high stats and a million of the same EC's. The important part is setting yourself appart. And while nerds my have the advantage in stats at times, he is a suggesting that if you lead an interesting life rather than just study the whole time you have a greater chance of admission. Thus there are some regular people and nerdy people. Then again if you ask me youve got to have a little nerd in ya to go ivy.

I'd have to agree with the last sentence there, "if you're going ivy you probably have a little nerd in you." It depends on who you hang out with, but Cornell is a huge school. I have a family friend who is a huge partier and a school friend who, I believe, has yet to leave his dorm.

there are frats open every night of the week: tipsy tuesday, wasted wednesday, thirsty thursday, etc. and then the huge open parties on fridays and saturdays. i know kids who go out every single night, i know kids who never go out, and i know kids who average about once a week. its a personal preference, no one cares how often you go out and finding kids to stay in with will never be a problem.

by nerd i mean like people who are strange and weird and w/e. i don't consider someone who is really smart and studies a lot and likes learning and does amazing academic things to be a nerd. this person could also have style and be really fun. lol
