Is transfer even viable at this point?

Hi i am a freshman in college rite now at Michigan STate university
as a hospitality major.
However I am set on going to Cornell's Hotel school.
on the site it says 12 hours or credits of credit from another university
is satisfactory for transfer..so that means i may apply AFTER my fall
semester right?

im just wondering if i obtain a leadership spot on the foodservice society here.
and obtain 4.0 (im almost sure i can) is it even viable that i have a chance for
admission? will they maybe give one of those guaranteed transfers? do they do that for transfer students?

i have work experience at ritz carlton hotel, several restaurants, and a bakery.

thanks.

Cornell is a school that looks very closely at your high school grades also, and I'm pretty sure they don't have any garaunteed admission either. If your hs stats were simmilar to their average freshman and you got a 4.0 in college I think you'd have a good chance.

You would be applying for the Fall of 2007, although Cornell traditionally would like to see a year of grades.

Do you have (or plan to have) any other ECs at MSU? Cornell will want to see something other than just a leadership spot in a food service society, and a 4.0. Even with that combination, Cornell does not guarenttee admissions.

I would caution against being so set on Cornell, since you might not otherwise settle in at MSU--missing something academic/social in the process. If the unthinkable happens, you might need to be at MSU for your sophomore year.

Try to keep it in perspective. You're a first-year...give it time, get involved, etc...and if you are still set on Cornell, then apply during your sophomore year. Just don't get your hopes up so much that a thin letter will cause havoc with your psyche, or prevent you from getting the most out of your Spartan experience.

Otherwise, good luck.

thanks for the replies.
isleboy, i actually am set on going to Cornell, and you are right, thinking that I need to be at another university has drawbacks..especially socially.. I am not going out of my way to make as many friends as I can. But, I really am set on going there. I am aware that there's a big chance I won't be admitted next year. My plan right now is to constantly apply until i get there. Thanks for the advice.

Just get involved with your ECs and you'll be okay to apply to Cornell for your junior year.

I'd say apply just once more, or it may hurt your chances--especially if you're not involved socially at MSU.
