Actually I was mistaken Tulane was ranked 43rd. So I am predicting they will only drop 5 spots.

not to mention wake forrest is overrated
vandy/notre/emory is overrated

carnegie and michigan and nyu are underrated

NYU was ranked 37th last year, I bumped them up 3 spots!

Fine, but it should be top 30.

Michigan underrated? I thought Michigan is overrated because it's a public school and thus has an undeservingly high peer assessment score.

underrated by the ranking posted. 28 is a bit low and umich > unc.

what does any of this have to do with tulane?

Tulane is expecting to have about 5,100 students, down from 7,952 in fall 2004.

That's a huge drop.

what does that mean for Berkeley then?

and btw, Michigan's state funding went up this year, and this years incoming freshman class is significantly better than years past stat-wise.

Therefore, I don't see Michigan's ranking dropping.

"Tulane is expecting to have about 5,100 students, down from 7,952 in fall 2004."

But what does that mean from a Rankings standpoint???

"Fine, but it [NYU] should be top 30."

realistically, i don't see that coming. maybe after a decade.

Michigan's class of '10 is exceptionally strong. I don't think it will fall at all.

Loss of tuition=loss of $$$ to pay profs and fund the school=lower ranking.

NYU top 30? i doubt it.

nyu shouldn't be in the top 40, either way I see tulane dropping, don't have any real numbers but I'm sure the yield must have gone down with the katrina situation, there campus is in need of major renovation, loss of tuition, and loss of many bright students and professors. So unless USnews feels sorry for them there going to drop atleast 5-10 spots. I wonder whose going to be this years big gainers on the list, I predict public U's are going to go up while some privates go down.

"I predict public U's are going to go up while some privates go down."

I would concur with that prediction. Look for the U Cals', UNC, Georgia Tech, UF, and Maryland to go up.

Again I wonder why nobody starts another thread defending other colleges. This thread is supposed to be about Tulane. 13 out of 18 posts have nothing to do with Tulane.

I am interested in Tulane and keep checking this thread when I see there are new posts, only to find out it is another post about NYU or Michigan.

Do you guys track this poorly when answering essay questions on the SAT writing test?

It is my understanding that all ranking, etc. for Tulane will be frozen for a year to help them recover from Katrina. There is more information on this if you look around the Tulane forum.

Tulane does not have any major renovation problems and sustained very little damage from the hurricane (yes, I have been to the campus since Katrina). The area around Tulane sustained very little damage and everything in that area looks great.

Tulane's acceptance rate for the class of 2010 was 35%. Yes, I understand that the yield is low for next year (don't know what it is), but I think that it is to be expected and things will start to look up after this year.

I keep hearing rumors about all the profs and students leaving, but (outside of the engineering area) no one seems to have any stories that can be defended when challenged.

Tulane is very generous with merit aid and I have heard of many students who will be attending Tulane in the fall that orginally were going to Emory, Cornell, UNC, etc, but couldn't afford the tuition.

Yes, I am sending my daughter to Tulane. She really loved the school when we visited after acceptance. There was great enthusiasm and everybody we spoke to - students and professors - loved the school.

I expect that Tulane will drop in the rankings and then begin to rise again, but that is not what is important to me as a parent.
