Is UB a ghost town during the weekends?

From what I heard most of the students in Stony Brook and other top sunys are commuters. I know that at UB 70% of the students live on campus, but does that 70% stay during the weekends?

Yes. Not a ghost town. Never heard such a thing in regard to UB.

But Where are the students on campus from? From what I heard there are a lot of long island kids but is that basically it??

BTW crazed have you attended UB?

UB is NOT known to be a big commuter school.

then how come on college board it list UB as a Commuter campus, while it list stony brook as a Residential campus?

My son is at UB (and from LI). He’s a sophomore. Never says kids go home. Local kids may go home, but if they live on campus., they are a minority. I would suspect that most of the kids live too far from Buffalo to go home often, if at all.

Kids are from all over the state. Lots form up north in NY as that is their closest SUNY U and they have great science depts and some programs not offered at many of the SUNY’s. Certainly many from LI and the Greater NY area. UB’s website may give you exact figures.

thanks crazed I feel so much relieved.

A fair amount of students do commute. However, these numbers include those that live right off-campus, many from out of the area that live in student apartment or housing complexes that are not operated by UB. That makes up a fair amount of the “commuter” population.

My D, also a sophomore, has several friends who are from the greater Buffalo area and still live on campus…they don’t even go home for the weekend! Though sometimes they take D and a few others home for dinner, or out to a Sabres game, which is pretty nice. She also has a few friends that commute to school, but they’re usually on campus until dinnertime and often come back in the evening. We’re from CNY and her roomies are from LI, Rochester, and the Adirondacks.
