Is UC Davis my only option now?

Ever since I went to community college, I was planning on only transferring to UC Davis. Now that I am actually applying this year to transfer, I've been interested in applying for other UCs. I looked at assist.org for UC San Diego and UC Irvine, and I think I put myself in a really bad situation...Do you think I should still apply for other UC campuses, or is it a waste of my time now?

I'm transferring as either a biology or biochemistry major. I have a cumulative GPA of about 3.89

What I am really worried about is that I only took math up to Calculus 2. I never took Calculus 3, since it wasn't required.
Also, the physics courses I took are specifically designed for UC Davis. Other UC campuses do not accept them.
I catered my application for UC Davis, but I'm starting to regret that and I do NOT want to stay another year at community college and take these courses.

Based on what I've read, biology is impacted at UC SD so they won't even look at my application since I haven't completed all of the required lower division courses.

It’s hard to say without actually knowing what you’re missing. But I would say you should still apply since you have a very strong GPA. You’ll likely still make it on the waiting list.

I agree with Robelius. If the transfer application is like freshman applications, it’s not any extra work … just a matter of checking some extra boxes and paying the application fee. You have nothing to lose (except the fee). You still have winter, spring and summer quarters to take some of those missing classes too.

I agree, it’s definitely worth a shot. If it doesn’t work out, Davis is a great school so don’t be disappointed.

At this point, I will definitely apply because I do agree that I have nothing to lose.

I haven’t taken the equivalent of physics 2a,2b,2c + lab courses that are required by UC SD, (I took the ones that are specifically designed for biology/chemistry majors at my community college who are looking to transfer to UC Davis) Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to take 3 more physics courses by the time I transfer. We are in the semester system.

And I never took math 20C (Calc 3). Since, once again, wasn’t required by Davis.

I just wish I could reach a more definite conclusion/answer.

Thanks for the help though!

A couple things, if you don’t have any egregious errors on your UC application, I’d say your chances are about 98% for getting in to UCSD even without Physics and Calc 3. As a current Molecular Bio major at UCSD I can tell you that there are many transfers here in the Biology department that enroll with some of their lower division prereqs left to complete, in fact missing physics is probably the most common.

Secondly, the biology department is no longer impacted here at UCSD starting this year, so that’s one less thing you have to worry about. UCSD admissions tends to focus heavily on GPA and a 3.89 is exceptional, so I’m very confident you’ll be admitted. If you’ll finish at least quarter of Ochem, I think you’ll be admitted at UCLA also as a Biochem or Molecular Cell and Developmental Biology major. Good luck.

If you end up at UCD, don’t worry! The school and people are awesome and Pedricks produce is the SH1T!

Thanks for the info! This definitely reassures me and helps relieve some unneeded stress.

I have Nothing against UC Davis. It is just that everyone I know is going there and I need change in my life. I also tend to do better when I am surrounded by new friends/people rather than sticking to my old ones. I will still be content with going there though.

Thanks again
