i really hope i get in please..... because if people with 900 on sat are getting in than i hope i do too, because my stats are above this

As I understand it, UCM is designed to eventually move into a spot where it is a top UC. However it is going to take time before this happens.

i read somewhere that UC Merced plans to enroll 25,000 students total by the time they are fully complete (2030?). i was wondering if this is undergrad or both undergrad + grad. if it is just undergrad, then wow, it would tie or surpass UCLA for the most undergrads.

UC Merced is crap

prolly worst than UCR

Merced:
grow / cultivate agriculture (crops)
experience the closeness to yosemite national park

wow ... so many interesting things to do

sounds kinda like UC Davis where its close to agriculture. is UC Davis crap?

I'm definitely going to apply there as a transfer for '06-'07. I'd be a Psych major......

yea comon..i mean when berkeley and UCLA was first opening their doors I bet people said that they were crap colleges...you never know

i just hope i get in ucm, i saw pics of ucm and it looks great and clean

First off, just had to point out that Mercez sounds really funny. Second, I think it makes sense that UC would want to make Merced up there with LA and Berkeley. I mean, if they have all these wonderful new facilities and etc., why would they want it to have the educational reputation as that of "the next UCR"?

30 years from now

"Hey, UCM, that's the newest UC that they just got finished fully constructing. Is it hard to get into?"

"Not really, average stats are 3.0, 1500 (altered for the new SAT)."

"How's the quality of education?"

"Bad, but hey, the buildings are nice!!"

I don't think that's what UC wants as the reputation for their newest campus.

I think UC Merced will probably be a middle-tier UC. I has the attractive resources, the new campus, probably a lot of innovative stuff or room for innovation, and if it becomes staffed up with good professors, then yeah, it has a good chance to be up there with the middle-tier UC's. However, despite how nice its location and surroundings are, I don't think it will catch up to Berkeley, UCLA, and UCSD, simply because of location. Those campuses are near a lot more entertainment options, near the city, which means much more internship opportunities and also because Asians make up a significant portion of the UC's and Asians in general prefer to stay where all the other Asians are near the city...

And once again, I just think if it gots the major, then is not a bad choice to
go there. I would not take UC merced over San Diego, LA, or Berkley. I
got in Davis and I am thinking of doing bioengineering, and Merced has
that major and I am seriously considering going there even though
everyone whoever I talk to says, "I am crazy." Here are reasons for
considering Merced:

It is a brand new campus, brand new buildings, and a brand new design. It
would feel great going there just because it is a brand new UC. You will
have the opportunity to start you own new clubs and just build it from
scratch. It is the people who go there who will determine how UC Merced
comes out in the future.

For one teacher the ration is 11 students. Now that is not bad. That is like a private school, even better than a private school. So what if it doesn't have a good name yet, they all started out like that. You can go of UC Merced and you will have a very good chance to come out with a good education. The teachers are there to teach and some students are there to learn. How UC Merced ranks is not going to make any difference on what you get out of the education. It is the attitude that counts. Is anybody else seriously considering Merced?

is UC Davis crap?

Depends on your defination for crap. What do you look for in a good school? Good educational opportunities? Good reputation? Good Location? Good party school or hot girls? really depends on your defiation for crap. In may opinion it is the student's attitude which counts more that the school in most cases.

^ i dont think UC Davis is crap at all, its a great school

Davis is a great school, and Merced may become one, my concern with Merced is that until it gets its population up and running, the course selection will have to be thin. If they had really wanted to pump this school up from the beggining, they should have given free rides to top students applying into the UC system. Anyone with a 1300 and above SAT and really decent leadership ECs to get the campus off the ground. Instead they will have all that nice new stuff and too many students who picked it as a safety.

That said, I am sure it will be a good deal to those who go, because the teacher student ratio is so low and they will obviously have new dorms and labs and classrooms.

Does anyone else get Jurassic Park vibes?

Its saddening, all those MIT/CIT/Harvard/Eleet-tier profs will be teaching a group of bumbling idiots.

See folks, that's what happens when you don't get a REAL job (doctor, lawyer, businessman, engineer), you become a LOOOOSER.

"It's a joke. Laugh."

I don't get it

let's imagine a world without teachers
