I’m a Psychology transfer student trying to choose between UCSD and Davis. I am highly considering Davis but am concerned it isn’t as prestigious as UCSD. I know it sounds a tad dumb but I think there will be some who will consider you more depending in where your degree, even a BA is from. Also the likelihood of going to a prestigious grad school like Stanford or Berkeley.

Who are these ‘some’? Do you really think Stanford/Berkeley is going to reject someone because they went to Davis instead of SD? Think about this logically.

Please, go look up the rankings for top Psychology programs on USNWR. Report back what you find.

I already have.

Does it really matter where a student gets their undergraduate degree from? When it comes to grad schools, GRE scores and your GPA are more important (I was told this in a GRE prep course that I took for the past 6 weeks). Also, being able to sell/market yourself is important–a UCD Psychology undergraduate who shows excellent interpersonal skills is more likely to be hired by top companies than a UCSD Psych undergraduate who lacks interpersonal skills.

That .1 point difference has you that conflicted, huh? Honestly, the two schools are pretty indistinguishable for psychology. Additionally, graduate schools care more about your statistics and research than they do about where you went (not that it matters in this case.)

Go to the one you want to go to. Visit both, go to the one you like more. That’s it, simple as that.
