My admission to Cal has been retained, and I only have 2 days to submit my SIR! I am still rather torn now between UCD and Cal instead of UCD and UCSD like this past whole month. My biggest issue with Cal of course is pricey housing out of campus and that it’s hard to get single bedroom dorms. Not only is the housing pricey but so would the commute be in slightly less expensive areas.

I have been told over and over not to worry about prestige, but of course when the issue is brought up in the Cal forum everyone mentions the prestige. UC Davis still has an excellent Psychology program and relaxing atmosphere(I have a history of anxiety problems). Something I value highly in a university isn’t just the education but networking potential and potential for connections(something I heard can be lacking at UCSD).

Go to Cal since “name brand” is what you seem to seek and you’ll get your single housing there.

I looked at the dorm options and it’s hard to get single housing

I think one of the most important parts of picking the right college is feeling comfortable and happy there. If you feel that UC Davis has a better environment for you, that’s a huge consideration. Spending 4 years of your life somewhere you don’t really want to be is not very conducive to your education (aka people don’t learn well stressed). Just something to think about.

I agree. Go where you feel comfortable, feel happy, AND can be successful. 10 years form now it really won’t matter where you went to college. But you will remember how positive or how depressing and competitive it was. Go with your gut. What is right for you is not always right for someone else. Do what you think will be the best decision for you. BTW, I am at Davis. Transferred here and love the beauty, friendly people, relaxed atmosphere…and great professors, etc.

How about upper division class sizes? UCB offers courses only once a semester but unlike UCSD there aren’t any late-night classes. The class sizes are about 255, which is big but not as bad as UCSD which has some upper division Psych classes at 400.

How do I read the schedule to make sure I’m not deluded into thinking that UCD has small class sizes? What is the indicator of a discussion and lecture class on the schedule site?
