Is UCF a big party school?

I was just curious if UCF is really a BIG party school since it made it at #9 on Playboy's Top Party Schools. Are the parties really that crazy from UCF? Does they happen often?

Yes, it’s a party school like any other school. It could be more wild cause of the number of sororities and fraternities. However, not everyone is a partier. With 55,000 students, you will find your crowd.

Good to know, but I wonder what sets it apart from other party schools?

I would guess it’s because Orlando has many clubs. I think those would be a lot more common than house parties. Most other top party schools are in the middle of nowhere, unlike Orlando which has clubs, lounges, etc[…]. That would be my best bet for why it’s different and a top party school.

Also the diversity of parties. Some people at the rural party schools have difficulty finding parties because of their ethnicity. Not that everyone is racist or anything XD I just personally have never felt comfortable being the only black person at a party.

Others need a certain type of atmosphere - rave, mosh, reggae, hip hop, hippie, rap, classical, formal, or whatever to get their party on. With the HUGE population at UCF, like as21 said, you will find you crowd. There are also enough students who don’t party that you could avoid it completely, easily. You’ve got a whole micro-world on campus. It’s lovely.

That’s true, but from what I hear, UCF is just a school for people who love to party and didn’t get into either UF, FSU, or UM. That true? Anyone have any good info on this?

Pretty untrue for a lot of us here. I want to go to UCF because their technology programs are better than any other college in the state. I’m surprised to hear UM in that statement, because a lot of the people here in Jacksonville consider it on the level of FIU or FAU. Really, the schools are pretty much the same when it comes to undergrad anyway. If it was only for people who love to party, it wouldn’t be accelerating academically more rapidly than any other college in the state either :P

Haha very true, yeah down in the South UM is considered like one of the top 3 schools in Florida along side UF and FSU, statically speaking. It’s hard to judge whether or not these rumors are true based on people who haven’t attended UCF yet. But, otherwise, I agree with you for the most part. Im just trying to look out for a friend that is considering going there since he’s not a real party person himself.

On a side note, UM is DEFIANTLY not on the level of FAU and FIU. UM is a pretty good private school with great research opportunities and doesn’t have that commuter school reputation like FAU and FIU are known for. Just saying :P

Aaah. I didnt actually know that. Maybe its because we have wicked high ranked high schools up here, or maybe our staff has some personal vendetta against UM XD

Weve basically been taught that UF is good for the athletic type, and doctors, and lawyers, FSU was for the technically artistic type, and business and finance career tracks, and UCF is the happy medium for those balanced between the sports and arts, and for the performance arts. Its also for scientists, researchers, and innovators. The common saying is that UF is a Republican, old, distinguished, and never changing, FSU is a Democrat, old, yet progressive, and peaceful, and UCF is Independent, young, forward, and constantly changing XD

No other school is really even considered in florida, unless youre a swimmer, and then its off to FAU we ship yehz.

But, to stay on topic, at such a big school, you find every type of person, every type of party, and plenty of people who don’t want to party at all. If your friend really wants to go to ucf, then he should!

That’s not true Ari lol. USF is considered. I know A LOT of people that don’t even know what or where UCF is. Which is crazy because it’s the 2nd biggest school in the nation and first biggest in Florida. & yeah I knew that UM is one of the top 3 in FL but it’s easy to overlook because it’s private.

XD I was mostly talking about here. USF here is more of a back up for UCF, if you couldnt afford it, couldnt get it, or just wanted something similar but a change. I guess it depends on where you live. Id never even heard of UM until I started my college search, but it seems cool. The same way that whats considered up in georgia is like, lulz here.

Yeah I guess lol . Idk USF and UCF are very similar imo in terms of academics imo. Some people just choose one over the other because of location or campus and stuff.

Yeah, its just not as good when it comes to technology and research, but no school in florida is in that category. Every school is great for something here. It just depends on whatcha wanna do?

I don’t know about everyone’s location here, but in South Florida, we see the schools in this order (a very general opinion based on the people at my school):

UF

FSU (Although they’re practically the same)

UM (Only due to such a high cost for private school)

UCF (Great hatred for UCF in my school for some reason, not sure why)

USF (Just about equal to UCF)

FAU (Better then the below schools)

FIU (All these schools are the lower tier schools so in can be any order)

UNF

FGCU

FAMU

Side note: Did anyone here finally get into UCF? A lot of people I know still haven’t gotten responses. Btw, UF Business was ranked higher then FSU just saying :stuck_out_tongue:

Hope everyone here gets into UCF if not already in!!!

For fiscal year 2009/2010 USF had around $394 million in research funding; UCF had about $133 million in research funding for 2010. UCF is getting there.

Yeah UCF and USF, in those placings, are interchangeable really. I feel as though they’re like the same school but in different areas lol

Again, I think that’s about where I live. My mom is a software engineer, and I know a lot of video game designers, as well as other engineers, programmers, and researchers, and most of the ones around here always suggested I choose UCF over USF, but I guess that one was obvious with UCF having the number 2 Game design track in the nation. And I was talking about the amount of direct research a student gets to participate in, especially at the undergrad level, that contributes to their exit portfolio lizard, not the amount of funding. And again, just talking about what is the general feeling around where I live :stuck_out_tongue: I know that USF is big on research, and that’s one of the only things they’re known for around here, they’re just not considered by my counselors and things as as good a choice. They were founded around the same time, so it’s most likely just a ‘where you live’ thing, outside of the Game Design track. I’m not dissing USF, and I was considering it as a school before XD I feel like people think I’m talking down on it :P

Lol I didn’t think that Ari. Just saying that they are viewed as virtually the same in my area by the people that know about UCF… but there alot that just don’t… I don’t know why.

Well yeah, I know YOUU know I wasn’t, because you’re my CC BFFL <3
