I am a newly admitted transfer student to UCLA. Having never really done the whole go off to college after you graduate H.S. deal, Im sort of hoping for the experience now. I would consider myself very normal and fun, I love to hang out with friends, shop, BBQ, play games, watch movies, etc. Im curious what the social scene is at UCLA. More specifically the following:

Do you have to be a heavy party girl in order to have a big social life?
Are the students snobby? Nice?
What are the guys like?
What are the transfer dorms like?

Im havent signed any papers yet - im still laboring the decision. UCLA or UC Berkeley. Any feedback would be great. Thanks!

Do you have to be a heavy party girl in order to have a big social life?
No, there are activities for everyone. College is all about finding your niche, so partying isn’t the only way to socialize.

Are the students snobby? Nice?
UCLA is a big place. You’ll find all sorts of people here. Most are nice, some are snobby, it’s big enough that you’re not forced to deal with people you don’t like.

What are the guys like?
see above

What are the transfer dorms like?
It’s the same buildings as “normal” dorms

Overall UCLA is not a party school, but you do get your share of fun and social activities.

Do you have to be a heavy party girl in order to have a big social life?
No. Although UCLA is the smallest UC campus, it probably has the biggest social atmosphere. There are activities everyday on campus, around 950 student-led clubs and organizations, many off-campus activities sponsored by the city of LA, and etc. You will surely find something that you truly enjoy in.

Are the students snobby? Nice?
UCLA is a diverse place. There are people with many personalities here. I would say that almost all of the students are pretty nice, with a occasional few that are snobby.

What are the guys like?
Pretty hot (what do you expect, it’s LA!).

What are the transfer dorms like?
They are like any other dorms on campus: halls, plazas, or suites.

Overall UCLA students get their shares of fun, while also being academically challenged. UCLA is like a balance of Berkeley (mostly academics) and SD (mostly parties).

I think if anything, UCSD has the reputation of being one of the least partying of the UCs - definitely less than UCLA which has frat houses across the street from campus (UCSD doesn’t), but I don’t think either are considered a ‘party school’ like UCSB or SDSU. What it really comes down to is that those who are party types can party and those who aren’t don’t. It’s up to the individual to decide what they want to do and do it.

I think she means SDSU. UCSD doesnt have many parties at all, there’s practically no social life, but SDSU is constantly been ranked a top party school.

UCLA is huge. There are lots of parties if you’re into that. However, the amount of time you have to attend such parties depends greatly on your major, degree, and grade goals.

although it’s not a party school, it’s easy to find parties to go to, especially since you’re a girl. girls get into all the frat parties. there’s at least one or two frat parties every thursday. if frats aren’t your thing, once you get to know more people there’s apartment parties which are tons of fun. also you can just party in the dorms.

certain clubs also party a lot, and those are supposed to be super fun as well so you could look into that. aside from that, i’ve found my closest friends from living in the dorms and not from partying, so no, you don’t have to be a super hardcore partygirl to have a good social life

It’s a party school if you want it to be, not if you don’t want it. People are typically very genuine and outgoing. I’ve met a seldom few snobs.

Congrats on admission, and welcome to the UCLA family!
