I have a 2130 SAT score, 3.4 uw gpa, good extra curricular. I should be well qualifid but if you dont apply for financial aid is it much easier to get into. My family is wealthy.

My S, who didn’t apply for financial aid, was rejected by USC with a 3.4 UW gpa and 2240 SAT. I wouldn’t be too optimistic.

No, the admissions committee does not base decisions on whether you need financial aid or not.

USC definitely pays attention to the quality of your high school. For example, if New Trier is your high school, USC will admit you despite the lower GPA than its average admits.

USC accepted 30% of the outgoing senior class in 2007 with many full tuition/half tuition scholarship and most full paying students as it is hard to qualify for FA from our school.

According to school GC it does increase your chances at USC if you don’t apply for FA.

Down to 21% in 2008. A lot of legacies have been rejected, so pay attention to your application and essays.

Columbia_Student: I was pointing to that 30% of my school’s senior class of 2007 was accepted and I’m not sure how many applied hoping around 60% of the class applied.
Intention was to indicate that school GC know a lot about USC and if they say not applying for FA helps at USC then it should.

I am curious. Is it correct 60% of your senior class applied to SC? That seems terribly high.

Recently I attended a seminar/reception for SC admissions. One of the speakers was the SC Associate Dean of Financial Aid. She commented her committee does not even see the applications for financial aid until the students are already admitted. The subject was not addressed regarding merit scholarships as opposed to need based aid.

These are the main “feeder” high schools for SC students enrolled in the incoming fall 2008 class according to the SC website.

Public:
Arcadia High School
Troy High School
La Canada High School

Independent or Parochial
Harvard-Westlake 27 enrolled
Punahoe School 25 Hawaii
Mater Dei 22
Iolani School 21 Hawaii

Georgia Girl: I’m not sure how many applied but 30% of the class got acceptances. Yes the school is on the feeder school list.

I don’t think so.
It really depends on your HS
My school has a decent relationship with USC, about half of those who apply will get in.

It depends on the size of your high school right. 50% of 100 is different than 50% of 600.

im the person who originally posted this thread. i go to a private school (10k per year) wtih only 60 kids. how does my chances look. i live in texas
