My teacher recommends us to cross out mistakes, but I like to use a white-out.

Even if white-out is allowed, I still think cross-outs would be better. It definitely saves time, a luxury we don't have when it comes to any kind of testing.

Nope. I don't think you're actually allowed to have it during the test. Like winterpolaris said, it's a lot easier to cross things out -- make sure you plan out what you're going to say better you start writing, though (just ideas, that is). That way you'll avoid a great deal of crossing-out and, thus, save more time...

i used tape white out. it worked last year. i don't see why not.

I think it is permitted, though not recommended. Am i right?? Did you have any problem with it, Best_Wr??

Who had problems (like score cancellation for misconduct) using whiteout??

do you have to use pen?

To the best of my knowledge, all AP essays must be written in pen. My counselor told us not to bring whiteout, but I'm not sure if it's technically legal or not...

On a sidenote, if the essay is required to be written in pen, is erasable pen permitted?

we were allowed to use pencil in stats though...

...because that's math.

Erasable pen!! That's a good idea. I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed.

yeah, the only problem might be that it smears rather easily

I've read stories on here where people decided to change their essay halfway through and cross out ALL they wrote and it's so messy and distracting to the other people, but they still got 5s. It seems like it's so easy to get a 5 when you come to CC and read other peoples' reactions to these tests.

ME!!!!
I DID THAT TO THE AP LANG ESSAY

i wrote the ENTIRE essay aobut the advertisements and marketing.

then, i realized that the essay was NOT to encourage ppl to buy the product.

i wrote 3.5 pages.

then, i had like 30 min left after i did the other essays.
rewrote that essay real quick.
crossed out the 3.5 pages

What do you guys think: eraseable pen OK? (I know it smears sometimes, as said above)

I already used whiteout for the essays, and I regret it (but i didn't know!). So will it still be okay???

there's no problem with whiteout. i used tape whiteout (a lot) in bio last year and got a five.
as long as they can read your essays, you're fine. The graders aren't evil; they're people like your teachers who want to see you do well. They aren't gonna cancel your scores/your yearlong work just b/c of whiteout.

Good to hear that

DON'T use whiteout or whiteout tape. Put a line through anything you don't want read. The readers will ignore it. Your time to write your essay is limited. Don't waste it. Erasable pen can smear. Writing what you want read on top of what you don't want read can also be confusing.
