<p>Yes! I can’t remember what the place is called, but my friend went skiing a few hours away.</p>
<p>You can be on a trail by just walking down Jefferson Park Avenue.</p>
<p>We have great trail systems. We have great parks (for mountain biking, swimming, frisbee golf, etc.), and we’re about 30-40 minutes from the Appalachian Trail. There’s [an</a> outdoor adventure club](<a href=“http://www.outdoorsatuva.org/]an”>http://www.outdoorsatuva.org/) that runs trips and loans out gear for sports, camping, caving, and climbing. If you come to DOTL, you’ll see their building as you drive in…it’s right next to the Cavalier Inn, at the intersection of Emmet and Ivy Streets.</p>
<p>The city and county park system is fantastic, too. CavDog is a big fan. :)</p>

<p>Beyond the trails, parks, etc., if you like being outside, I think you’ll really like the campus at UVA. When I visited, I couldn’t tell you how many students I saw doing work or relaxing on the lawn or in other various spots on campus. There are many places to sit outside and relax–and as mentioned above places to go hiking, biking, etc.</p>
<p>There’s also a BIG ski/snowboard team if you want to get involved with that. Good discounts on a season pass and they compete all over</p>
<p>For skiing, it’s been a while but I think Wintergreen is closer than a few hours away- not much over an hour, I’m thinking? There’s also Massanutten which can’t be much over an hour away. Both of these hills are smallish, but in the South you can’t be too choosy.</p>

<p>as a follow-up, MapQuest Driving Directions shows Wintergreen only 41 minutes from Charlottesville- a lot closer even than I remembered.</p>
