Is VCU financial aid packet separate from Merit/Scholarship notice?

Hello, my daughter got accepted in VCU Arts and we received a letter this past week that she got a very generous scholarship. I was wondering if we will receive a separate Financial Aid packet or will that be it? Since we are OOS it still leaves us with 20K a year to pay. Thanks.

Financial aid packet comes separately and will list the need based assistance if you qualify for it. We received ours prior to the merit offer, so it did not include the merit related figures in it.

Interesting, thanks. We received our merit offer first it appears, which really surprised us since they initially told us we wouldn’t hear anything until early spring.

Renergizibg this thread. My D was accepted to VCUARTS about three weeks ago and her financial aid letter just arrived (she qualifies for a loan, so, you know, no aid, which isn’t a surprise). We were anticipating that, based on grades and test scores, she might be eligible for some modest merit aid and understand, per this thread, that merit awards come seperate from financial aid. What is liklihood at this stage that such merit aid might still be forthcoming?

My daughter’s scholarship/merit aid was sent to us a month before the FA document we just received this week as well. We are still waiting to hear about a potential Honors scholarship. Not sure how that work for those that did not apply early. My daughter also got accepted into VCU Arts

Well a pleasant surprise today. After being told by admissions two weeks ago when I called that my DD had not received merit money, a letter arrived today offering 3K renewable merit scholarship. Not a ton of money, but an unexpected bonus and every little bit helps.

congrats! D attends VCUARTS GD major, loves it. Excellent program

Maybe they will release some more merit aid since we won’t be using it. My daughter decided on University of Michigan STAMPS College of Art and Design this week. VCU Arts is an excellent program but the challenge of being so far away outweighed it’s advantages for us and UM is just a better all around school. Daughter is giving up a 22K a year scholarship but hope this will benefit someone else.

DBY2017 did you visit? we had exact same concerns about overall university. After speaking with several industry accomplished individuals we rightly determined it was the ART school that mattered most in our case as that’s her major GD . And its automatic credibility in that respect.

Good luck ,wish yours all the best. But know we had same concern. Now ours has very high grades, is extremely happy and very involved .

Yes we did, spent a few days in Richmond. We did enjoy it and the Art school was impressive, however we did not see a significant advantage over STAMPS. UM is just a better fit for her. Have you been to Ann Arbor? It’s an incredible place to go to school.

been to Ann Arbor a few times over the years. Great school. Wish you and yours all the best. But there really is little comparison in terms of the art school to the top 10 art/design schools. Having said that, academically is a excellent choice and superior. Hey can always go for a MFA .

Not to hijack this forum but the problem I have with VCU Arts is that their accolades come from their graduate program, not undergraduate. Yes they are #2 in the country but it is not for their undergraduate program. My daughter preferred a more diverse education with a mixture of arts and academics and UM offers both and a more flexible program. While we were impressed with VCU they did not not do enough to convince us that their undergraduate program had significant advantage over what UM Stamps offered.

not to add to the hijacking but I am 100% certain if you compare the deep contacts to exisiting alumni in the field you;ll
quickly see what all the fuss is about. and yes, mfa’s are included as alumini too.

I used to think people were mean to you because you are always pimping VCU, but I now see their point. You get paid by them or something? UM blows the doors off VCU in just about everything but Art and UM’s Art program is still ranked #20. The standards to get into UM is much higher than VCU and I would argue that UM alumni are larger. For our needs UM was a better fit.
