i know yale wont have the party scene of state schools, but would you consider it work hard/play hard?

somebody i know said that (compared to Johns Hopkin's biomed department) that ivy's in general are somewhat "easy." I know that all ivys are extremely competetive schools, but does his statement have any merit?

say for example, in an economics major...

From my perspective, Yale College is very laid back as far as outward competitiveness goes. Frankly, all of us are pretty well motivated and there's definitely momentum to advance in our scholarship but it wasn't like "What's the curve going to be?" I was an econ major.

Work hard/play hard? Yes and yes. While the "typical" college parties are available, what's great about Yale is that there are many, many non-typical distractions for recreation. The alternatives to the "people milling around the keg" party abound and you'll find yourself going to a frat party on thursday, going to a movie event on Friday, going to see your roommate sing lead in a student produced musical on Saturday and hear another one's oboe recital on Sunday -- and this is all normal and accepted!

saturday nights in downtown new haven are definitely lively

Every school outside of Liberty/Bob Jones/BYU says they are WHPH.

i was just wondering what yale was like b/c i talked to someone from washu, and she was just like, "we just relax on the weekends, not crazy parties so much". so i was curious if yale had a lot of parties and drinking, kind of like princeton.
