My son submitted his app a few minutes before the deadline. But the Common App said it was submitted 1/3 ET (we are in CT) Is it late? What will happen to his app?
The CA deadline is the location where you are, not where the school is. Was the CA overloading at that time?
No. CA was fine. No issue there. My son finished his supplement in one hour. Talk about teen procrastinator.
At least one of DDs schools specified 11.59pm EST.
Was that a common app school? I linked the CA policy on another thread, but if a college overrides it, or has a different policy for their school specific app that’s their perogative…
@jym626 I tried to find it quick but could not. I will look again later. It must have been a common app school because those are the only ones she is looking at right now. I specifically pointed it out to her because she had been saying that it was all local time.
tick-tock, tick-tock. He’s still working…
Thanks. I would really appreciate knowing, ihs76.
DD is still working on her last application due on the 5th.
@Ballerina016, guessing that was my D2’s last school as well. They also notified last of all of her colleges, but it was all good news in the end and worth it.
I am hoping for a good news as well @intparent . DD left her favorite schools to last and she is so glad she did, since her latest essays are on completely different level compared to her earlier one.
My kid crawled across the finish line on that last one like a person lost in the desert… but she still managed to pull it off.
My son got another one done. He gave up another one that is also due today.
D is working on yet another 11th hour application. She wanders into the living room and asks us to help her brainstorm an essay: “Write a letter to your future roommate that reveals something about you.” I thought her dad and I came up with some good ideas, but after getting shot down time and again, we got a little silly. (I have a pet unicorn at home, I can tie a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue, please don’t be alarmed the first you see the birthmark shaped like Texas on my bum). She was getting bored with our shenanigans and ready to leave when we came up with the winner: “Dear Roommate, no matter what our relationship turns out to be, know for certain that I like living with you more than my parents.” Eureka! :))
D is working on an application due tomorrow that she’s known about for a long time (and is probably one of her top choices, although she’s somewhat non-committal), but decided to wait and work on it after we got back last Wednesday from being out of town for Christmas. Fortunately, she doesn’t go back to school till Thursday, so she has time, but I’m really hoping she can finish it today, rather than waiting until the last minute tomorrow to submit it. She’s both a procrastinator and a perfectionist, so we’ll see what happens. After this one, she’ll only have one more application, due Jan. 15. All of her applications are RD, so no news yet, but I’m hoping she’ll hear from somewhere before the end of March. I’ve heard that some of the UC’s let applicants know in January or February, but we’ll see.
S gave up on his last and final RD application due tomorrow, concluding that the final school was less desirable than the EA school he had already been admitted to. The 9 application marathon is finally over, now nothing to do but wait for a few months. He is now immersed in PS4 land, freezing and zapping various electronic creatures and blissfully ignoring his computer and the evil common app.
My son decided that he has to focus on his classes. No more college essays for a few days. But he has a few papers due before the finals.
I’ve found nothing much happens with college essays during the school week. Which is why there’s always a LOT of chat about time management on the weekend. Getting there though. At least everything for 1/15 is drafted, and meets bare minimum specs (by which I mean on topic and in standard English) although some drafts are certainly rougher than others, and some shed more personal light than others. They will be what they will be.
My son told me that he is quite sick of apps. He wish he could have a vacation in Florida, California or Cuba during the break, like his friends in school.
And done. Phew.
