I mean some people are shameless enough to steal them…

I kind of agree. I woudn't ever post mine, but at the same time, I can see how people really need opinions and don't have a lot of resources to help them. Also, I see the essays as a chance to really represent myself, I wouldn't want someone else stealing that chance. It's just more valuable to use something you've written.

The thing is, I haven't seen any phenomenal essays posted quite yet. But I think if a really really great essay is posted, there may be some problems..

Have your English teacher and your friends read your essays if you want your them critiqued. It's the safest and, not to belittle the CC members, most helpful way to get comments.

Hm... I have an essay I'd like someone to look at. It's almost impossible to steal it, there's no other program like this in the country :P

I occaisonally comment on an essay, but if a whole bunch of people start praising your essay, it could easily be stolen. No one is going to steal an essay that's terrible. I would never post my essay, they're are plenty of people to critique your essay, from family, to friends, history and english teachers, and it's a whole lot safer. I say, if you want to risk it, go ahead, but be aware of the risks.

Mmhmmm... even if they're very VERY specific and involves an organization and program unique to you and your school?

depends, school name can easily be tweaked

I think I'm going to post mine on the Prejudice Reduction Conference. It's impossible to copy. I even have a recommendation letter from the advisor ;)

Hmm maybe that might be different. Never heard of that organization what does it entail?

I posted it on another thread, read all about it :)

I posted mine, and took it down a week later.

You won't believe how much help I got.

I got into Yale. Plus into some other schools. PLUS won third prize in a national level writing competition (modified it a little though)

I think the summary of this thread goes: Only post your essay if it's completely unique to you AND/OR you need a lot of help that you can't get teachers, family members, or friends to give.

um... thank you for that.

Yea, it's okay to post essays, but do it with caution.

hey upandover- how did you take your essay down?

Upandover, you were able to remove your essay? How? Would you email the mods/admin?

I posted my essay about a day ago, and now I regret it/am getting paranoid. I posted it late at night and thought it was personal enough (it was on a special science internship) not to be stolen (but functioning on a lack on sleep, I acted very rash), but I did recieve a bit of help.

People desperate enough to steal essays wouldn't be applying to the same schools as I am anyways ;)

Even if someone decided to steal it... so what?
I mean if the adcoms found out, you could always prove it was originally yours by referring to this forum :D

You just 'Report Offensive Post'... I know others who did that as well. I was really paranoid about it too. Really worried about people plaguerizing it..

Generally you do recieve quite a bit of good advice (though you have to sift through some bad ones) and it is rather helpful. So go ahead and post! And take it down later!
