Isolation of campus

My son is interested in studying in a LAC. We have heard many positive accounts from former and current students at St. Mary's. My son visited the campus recently and liked it very much. His only concern was its isolation, particularly for a student who does not own a car. Do students feel isolated or trapped on the weekends if they stay on campus? Are there shuttle buses to go shopping or visitng at nearby towns? My son would like to take a walk and get a pizze late at night with friends. Are there any restraunts/cafes nearby? Alternatively, do local vendors deliver?

I'm not sure about busses, but there is always someone with a car around willing to take people places. There's even a bulletin board where people post where they need to get to and where they can take people so that people with and without cars can meet up. There is pizza delivery late at night. I don't think that many people feel "trapped" at all on campus; most people who bring cars find that they never need to use them. Restaurants and other things (Walmart, movie theatre, Starbucks, etc.) are at Lexington Park about 15 minutes away by car.

IMO, the weather on Delmarva is such that a 15 bike ride from SMC to stores, movie theater etc. is relatively comfortable for an able-bodied student. Bring a bicycle to campus.
