Did anyone else apply to the Bessie F. Lawrence International Summer Science Institute? :) How many Americans are usually selected?

The waiting begins! So nervous. Good luck everyone!

The waiting begins! So nervous. Good luck everyone!

I applied! I think I’ve heard that in past years ~30-40 students are accepted from the U.S. I don’t remember where I heard that, though, so it could just be a statistic my mind made up…
Good luck!

Has anyone heard back?

No we have not heard anything. We were starting to think that maybe that was not a good sign. Do they even send out rejection notifications?

I thought that interview notifications would be released mid-April, so it might be that they haven’t sent anything out yet.

Nothing yet. They sent out rejection notifications last year, so I’m assuming this week? I don’t think it’s a bad sign. No news is good news, right? ;)

I got my interview time today! Very excited :)

Yes! My D got her interview time today too. It’s a phone interview because we are not in the NY area. We were just in NY Fri,Sat, Sun darn it. 15 min? It’s so short - does anyone know what they ask? Assuming that it will be research focused though.

A previous post I had read from several years ago made it sound like almost everyone who applies gets an interview is that true?

I got an interview request too. I’ve got the same question as Midhelper - what does the interview consist of?

Good luck, everyone! :)

I’m assuming research-oriented questions. Maybe about the paper we wrote as well.

batfan: are you in the NY area?

@micrus1896, no I am not. Are you?

Yes, I am, so I will be going to the interview in NY. I don’t know anyone else who is going, so it is definitely going to be interesting! :)

How did everyone’s interview go? My D said that it was very straightforward and it was very short. Maybe she misunderstood but it sounded like they were only interviewing a select few this year.

Post if you hear anything.

My interview in NY was short too and pretty straightforward. My interviewer told me we would know the results by “early next week”, so it almost sounded like they have a fairly good idea who they want. I’m just hoping that the fact that my interview was so short does not mean I was not chosen.

Yeah short interviews makes one feel like they may be getting brushed off but in many cases it can be a good sign because they have already heard what they are looking for.

Did he say anything about how many people they are interviewing and/or accepting?

Nope, he didn’t say anything about how many students.

Mine was fairly short and straightforward too. Good luck, everyone!

Accepted, I can’t believe it!! The email said 75 people were selected, 19 of which are from the U.S.

I’m accepted too!!!
Still in semi-denial, but getting more and more excited by the minute. See you there!

Yay!! My D got in too! Do you have any idea how many applied from the US?
