Hi CC,
Just wondering if any seniors are planning to apply to the program later in the year or if any alumni of the program can share some of their experiences.

For those that don't know, ISSI is a 4-week summer research program at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel for graduating seniors.

Sent my app in today! The website/application were conflicted about interviews–does everyone get an interview? I really hope so.

After stalking the old ISSI facebook pages and watching some youtube videos, I’m even more excited about this program. Research in Israel with other high school seniors from around the world?! I couldn’t think of anything cooler … which is unfortunate, since it’s so competitive Keeping my fingers crossed, but expecting the worst.

Just overnighted mine today! App wasn’t too great though
Yeah, I stalked all the facebook groups too, the program seems great… I’m not really expecting anything, but it would be really really nice if I got in
The app said that all of the applicants get interviews, but I’m not sure what the website says cause it’s down
What are you interested in researching?

Yeah, the website seemed to imply that some applicants are “selected” to be interviewed, while the app said that everyone would be contacted for an interview.

All my previous research has been in marine biology/ecology, but I’m a super neuroscience freak, so my first choice on the ISSI app was neurobiology.

That’s cool… I did some research in neuroscience and atmospheric science, and I wrote about a neuroscience paper for the second essay. My first choice was particle physics though… I wanna do something with astronomy this summer.
I hope they contact everybody for the interview…

Just got an email today that they received my app. The email said that only applicants who make it past the initial review move on to the interview round. The e-mail was sent to 55 people, and I’m not sure if it was sent to all the applicants… pressure, pressure

Yeah, I got my interview time! Best of luck to you eak325 – hope we see each other in Israel :)

And, Deliciouscake, I’m so sorry you didn’t get the preferred news. From personal experience many times over, rejection sucks. But your accomplishments clearly stand alone, and you don’t need me to tell you that a single summer program means nothing. Have a fantastic summer, and I wish you the best of luck at whatever (wonderful) university you end up attending :)

Good luck on the interviews, guys! I don’t recall them being particularly challenging, but there are more applicants this year, from what I hear.

Ugh…all my interviewer wanted to talk about was research outside of school…I didn’t write anything about research on my app because I NEVER GOT THE CHANCE TO DO ANY!!!
