Hey!
I'm thinking about applying to ISSI this year, but it seems like no one on collegeconfidential has been/has an opinion about it (perhaps b/c people don't check this forum anymore once they're in college? Ahaha). Has anyone here done ISSI in the past? How was it? What did you research?
And how selective/hard-to-get-into is the program? Compared to... RSI on the high end of the range, Gov School on the low end?

Bump bump bump :)

Bump again!

Sorry, never heard of it.

Yeah, I do get the feeling that it’s a less popular one… but it seems sort of awesome. Here’s the link, if anyone’s curious [Young @ Science :: Activities :: ISSI − Dr. Bessie F. Lawrence International Summer Science Institute](<a href=“Weizmann Institute of Science | 404 Page Not Found”>Weizmann Institute of Science | 404 Page Not Found)

I would’ve applied, but it’s in Israel.

“but”??
Not “especially because”?
Because it being in Israel is one of my favorite things about it ahaha :D

So, did anyone end up applying?
I did.

Just based on the applicant pool, it seems like admissions will be difficult this year. At least a couple American applicants were both Siemens and Intel STS Semifinalists; some (like me) were just one or the other. One did quite well at ISEF one year and has a minor planet named after her. The schools they go to include TJ, IMSA, and NCSSM. Every year, they also pick one just based on ISEF performance alone. I feel really inferior now. I wish I’d started doing research my freshman year…

I think they generally pick around 18 Americans. That’s what Ms. Calise said when I emailed her, at least.

proletariat your stats are kinda insane, and I’m pretty sure you’re competitive no matter how many ppl they pick. Plus, many STS semis wont apply just because they want to do something else in their last high school summer.

I’m applying from Canada…does that count? I have a friend who went last year, and she said it’s an amazing social experience. The academics is rigorous, but a lot of people went just to have some fun.

My stats are not insane! I am a normal person! You have much more research experience than I do.

Of course Canada counts! I would imagine so. I mean, it’s in ISRAEL, and you’re with some of the smartest kids in the world.

If any kids who go to IMSA, Montgomery Blair, Stuyvesant, NCSSM, TJHSST, etc. or any prestigious private schools are reading this, I hope you realize how lucky you are to know about opportunities like these and to have environments supportive of research. I didn’t even know you could do research in high school until late in my sophomore year…

Anyone else have information about this program? I’ve been doing a lot of research/stalking and it looks AMAZING - I have no doubts about that - but I want to evaluate my chances of getting in. I’m so nervous…

Interviews April 19 for Americans!

This program looks awesome, I think I want to apply next year

Anyone else applying? Interviews are arriving fast!

Whoo, I got in! See you there, nirvanatear.
