ISSUE WITH OFFICER POSITION FOR HIGH SCHOOL CLUB

Hey guys. Before I ask my question, here’s some context:

In my freshman year, I applied to become a Secretary for a high school club and got the position. I was really passionate about this club so I not only did my basic Secretary duties in my Sophomore year, but I took it upon myself to better the club by designing a new club T-Shit, photoshopping new fliers, and other stuff like that. During the end of my Sophomore year, I applied to become a Co-President, but I lost since the other two guys were more popular than me and the election process was determined by votes. To make things even worst, all the other positions were full and I was reduced to a lower club member.

The President of the club, however, said that since I contributed a lot to the promotion and progression of the club, I could become an honorary club officer. So, my name wouldn’t be on any club documents, but I would still help out the club in my Junior Year.

So, right now I’m in my Junior Year and I’ve been wondering what I should do when applying to college. Should I put down that I was a member, an honorary officer, or just lie and say that I was an officer?

Also, do colleges even check the club documents regarding officer/leadership positions? Since my name won’t be on any of the club documents this year, I’m worried that I might be caught lying.

This club isn’t huge or as popular as other groups such as Key Club if that helps.

Thanks.

If the president gave you the position as an honorary club officer then put that on your apps. Colleges don’t have the time or drive to look into club documents and search for your name on them.

Don’t lie, especially on college apps. The impact that any club position will have on admissions is slim to none at most schools. If a school found that you lied on an app they could kick you out or even revoke your diploma years later.

Thanks man.

Don’t ever lie, it can hurt you in the long run. Just say you were an honorary officer.
What your title is doesn’t matter; What matters is what you do with the club.
