It is ALREADY the last minute

It’s 8:30 am on the east coast on Friday December 29.

Tomorrow, the 30th, is a Saturday.
The 31st is a Sunday.
New Years Day, January 1, is Monday-- and a national holiday.

If you have any applications due on January 1, TODAY is the LAST MINUTE. This includes, but is not limited to, the Common App.

It’s too late to be asking opinions on essays or on which schools you should be applying to. Spend this morning doing whatever you can, proofread, and hit submit. That way, if there’s any sort of technical glitch, you stand some glimmer of a chance of contacting someone at work in either the Common App workplace or in the school of your choice. The odds of getting someone in one of those offices goes down exponentially after today.

A percentage of last minute apps are going to have problems… just as a percentage of last minute school assignments have printer problems.

Nope, it won’t be your best work. I don’t care whether or not you “work best under pressure.” And, yes, it’s unfortunate that the 1st falls on a Monday-- but this isn’t exactly news to anyone who owns or has access to a calendar.

So get off CC and get those apps completed. Hit Submit!!

Rinse and repeat

OK, last time I’ll bump this, I promise.

Do NOT wait until 11:59 tonight. The Common App has been open for SIX MONTHS.

You’ve had plenty of time. Whether or not you’ve chosen to make good use of that time is up to you to decide. No one-- here, at your high school or at the colleges you’re applying to-- really cares about why you haven’t finished yet. You’ve had exactly the same amount of time as everyone else.

But it’s time to stop stalling.

As it is, you’re already spitting into the wind, hoping that there’s no glitch that has you praying that your guidance counselor has nothing better to do on a national holiday than hold your hand at midnight tonight. (Hint: she’s getting up for work tomorrow. She is NOT going to be checking her email at 11:58 tonight to talk you through a computer crisis.)

Proofread once more, changing only actual typos. No editing, no second guessing anything.

Then hit SUBMIT.

And check back tomorrow to see who missed the deadline.

Good luck!
