They have all these events for freshman but us transfer students are outsiders too, because we technically are first year students as well. I feel like it sucks to be a transfer student especially when you're placed in a dorm where a heavy majority of the students are continuing juniors + seniors who have already attended Rutgers for 2 years and found their "zone". Any advice?

Move to freshman dorm?

Unfortunately, you can’t go back and become a freshman again. Universities set up their system in that way. It was that way when I was in school (pre-historic days) and I saw transfers coming into our department who seemed lost because we had all formed our little cliches. It does get better because you will have lab partners and group projects in your classes and you’ll meet the people in your department.

As a transfer, you can access the programs like intramurals where new people join up every year.

I was a transfer and I was put into an apartment, so even less general interaction. But you do meet people over time. The first few weeks as a new student anywhere are hard but it gets easier.

I would suggest thinking of 3 clubs, you have an interest in to join. Since it is the beginning of the year and freshman are joining you might as well to since the clubs are in the mode to accept new members.

Head to the involvement fair on College Ave today from 2-6pm. That’s where you can meet people with like interests. Last year, all of the opening weekend activities for freshman were cancelled due to Hurricane Irene.
