It’s National Dog Day! Share a Photo!

This is the most ridiculously snuggly thread ever. For a non-dog owner/parent/what-have-you that doesn’t have the lifestyle for a pet at the moment, it’s awesome.

First dog I have had with a bobbed tail. She always looks like she is wagging a finger at us. Very cute.

What an amazing-looking pup! He looks as if he’s wearing a Mardi Gras mask. While I think Louie would be awfully cute, I nominate Tchoupitoulas, a street name in New Orleans that I always thought would make a fine pet name. Or, you could consider a Zydeco along with your Jazz.

How is that street name pronounced??

CHOP-ah-too-lus

I put a slight emphasis on the TOO, myself…Chop-ah-TOO-las (lived in NOLA for a couple of years so that can’t be too off). The name has a nice lilt!

He could be Tchoup (Chop) for short :dog:

Didn’t realize names were supposed to be jazz-based. With that info, I propose either Charlie or Parker.

I vote for Boogie. I would enjoy calling them both by yelling “Jazz Boogie”.

Please no Chop. Someone might think you are honoring that mess that was happening in our town in the summer of 2020!

My 160 lb Pyr rescue, Mookie. He has hypothyroid, so his coat is patchy in some areas and we’ve spent a fortune on other medical issues. Despite all of his quirks, he’s the sweetest dog ever and we just love him to death.

!
To give you some perspective, this is Mookie at 18 months (not quite filled out yet) standing over his late sister, Phoebe, a full sized 75 lbs golden. We miss her terribly.

This thread has struck me that so many have big dogs!

I would simply call the dog Nola!

Speaking of bobbed tails o had NEVER heard of this practice until we got our current dog who may have had it done! I have to admit this practice shocked me!!!

Is there real purpose for doing it? Yikes.

How about Tipitina (Tip for short)? Or Fess (for Professor Longhair)? Mac (for Mac Rebennack, a/k/a Dr. John)? Harry (Connick, Jr.)?

Sorry, I got carried away.

Awww, Tipitina’s…I miss NOLA so much! I danced away the night many a time at Tipitina’s…and I’m not a partier…(the town does have its way with you).

So, how do you attach a photo to the forum anyway? If only I could figure it out, I’d show off my pooch.

My daugther starts vet school in about a week. This summer she was working as a tech at a local vet. Had 2 vets; one long time vet and one a recent vet school grad. Senior vet took some time off this summer and had the new vet running the show. He had never cropped a tail (wasn’t discussed at all at vet school apparently). Someone brought in a doberman puppy to have its tail cropped. Couldn’t give him anesthesia because he was too young. My daugther was the only one willing to hold the puppy during the procedure which the vet had to perform. After, the young vet said he would never do that again.

From what I understand its pretty much to give a given look to the dog. Seems very barbaric.

That was my thought! :disappointed:. We rescued our dog whose tail we think is cropped and I suspect he had a bit of a tough beginning.

But now, his life is great!! :relieved:
