Pretend you’re Einstein.

A school by the name of “College of New Jersey” accosts you one day and asks you to come join its faculty. What would you say? In your mind, would “College of New Jersey” sound any different from “Camden County Community College?” Of course not; you’d probably turn down the offer and go to a school with a more quality-assured name, like Princeton. No wonder, then, that the College of New Jersey changed its name to, well, Princeton.

And no wonder, either, that Wharton gets so much more attention from the press and elsewhere than any other school at Penn; it is the most WASPy-sounding of the four undergraduate divisions.

Fun Fact: Princeton got upset (and sued) when Trenton State College changed its name to The College of New Jersey.

Hahaha..good post!!

hahaha. B/t TCNJ and CCCC i would definitely go to TCNJ. They would've given me free tuition/board AND a laptop!!

umm what's princeton from/mean?

princeton? queenounce?

I have no idea how they came up with "Princeton"." I guess it comes from Princeton, NJ but... maybe that was changed after Princeton changed its name?!

Princeton did not change its name to "Princeton" until almost 1900. Princeton NJ existed way back.

Thanks for the clarification. :D

Princeton changed its name from The College of New Jersey to honor the town of its location, basically naming it after the town of Princeton

There's still a school named the College of New Jersey

Yup. The college formerly known as Trenton State College.
