y doesn't anyone know about TCNJ its one of the most comp. schools in the country yet when someone talks about "The College of new jersey", ppl ask what college in new jerz r u talkin about? omg nobody knows about them its a really good school especially in teacher education and business

Well thank you for informing the masses. :)

lol i lik the sarcasm

with a name like that, i dont think itll ever get any attention(even if it is deserving)

lol yeah, its funny how colleges with bad names dont get alot of attention

Because the College of New Jersey is a good school, but is not extremely prestigious. This is because it has only recently gotten competitive. It was formally known as Trenton State and was a big school for education. Many of my teachers went there and there is no way they'd get in today if you know what I mean. That's how it is competitive but not extremely prestigious. It is still a great school and a great deal in New Jersey.

its funny how washington university in st. louis is not known by many "common people" even though its ranked #10 in the nation.. thats what a bad name does to you. they really need to rename that school.

Lol, it's ironic how that is ANOTHER school that has become prestigious relatively recently.

i think that just shows that schools that have become prestigious only recently aren't known by the general public.. olin college of engineering anyone?

TCNJ is excellent about doling out the merit money and most of the top kids at least at my school use it as a safety - it has a very strong base of New Jersey kids so obviously isn't known as well in the rest of the country. Attracting NJ students is a priority for TCNJ, and it does have a great reputation here.

Not enough diversity I hear.

Princeton also realized that "The College of New Jersey" sucked, and changed its name accordingly. Too bad for the current TCNJ that "Princeton" is taken.

People say its like High School, and its a suitcase school so all of the NJ kids go home for the weekend. 17 grand in state is not cheap (especially compared to UNC-CH). However, it does have a good reputation in NJ.

TCNJ has an excellent reputation anywhere- not just nj...

The tuition is also extremely low for nj students. Lower than Rutgers tuition. The campus is small but nice and I think they only have about 5,000 students. They are an academically challenging school and apparently have a 1340 SAT average . The students there look very weird and it seems so centered on math and science.

Until they can expand their borders to students from other states, TCNJ will only be known as a top notch NJ school.

harmon-
What does 'the students there look very weird" mean?

Our son is at TCNJ and he IS very weird ( in a very intelligent, talented, inquisitive, unique sort of way!). But I wonder if he fits your 'weird' look??? :)

I'm not upset with your comment, just bemused!

There are more degrees in education and business than any other major. Perhaps the premed students and 7 year med students are more prominent when one says that it is very science/math orientated. I really don't know why that would be, but perhaps there are a quite a few 7 year med hopefuls that have posted on cc and this makes it appear to be a heavily based math/science college.

I did not notice any "wierd" looking students.

I believe 1340 is the admitted average-not enrolled.

TCNJ is not known as a top notch NJ school. People view Rutgers with high regard and TCNJ itself is in a much better league than Rutgers...

You can't compare the two schools. TCNJ wants to be more like a public almost LAC-type school ala William and Mary, while Rutgers is a more research orientated school.
